I have always dreamed of visiting the Greek Islands. WhenI saw this trip combined with Istanbul and Izmir, I knew it was time to go! The entire experience exceeded all my expectations. The sights we saw, the places we visited, the educational information provided to us, the camaraderie with fellow travelers, the caring and expertise of the guides, the hotel accommodations, and the ship's food, service and amenities made this the trip of a lifetime! I certainly plan to make many more trips with Road Scholar.

I can't say enough good things about the Aegean Odyssey-based programs. We have done two of them, Venice to Athens, and Athens to Istanbul. The Aegean Odyssey is a small ship and the emphasis is on the land-based programs rather than trying to dazzle you with shipboard activities. It is, however, very pleasant, and the Road Scholar program goes far beyond the standard ship program. For anyone who has an interest in that part of the world, I can't imagine a better introduction!

We have always been independent travelers so this was our first tour and first cruise. The Aegean Odyssey, the Road Scholar program and our guides set a high standard for our future trips. The Aegean Odyssey had comfortable cabins, a variety of good food, friendly staff plus musicians, lecturers and a library supporting the itinerary. The tender service was well organized and efficient. There were many opportunities to talk with other passengers who were not part of the Road Scholar groups. The Road Scholar program included all the highlights of the ancient world and provided excellent transportation and meals on each excursion. The guides were not only knowledgeable about the sights and cities but presented the history, art and architecture of Greece with talks infused with pride and love for their homeland. Elsa was our guide and tour manager and she used both humor and drama to ensure we never got bored. She enhanced her presentations with tales of mythology and word origins! Our guide in Istanbul was excellent and also candid about the progress and problems in Turkey. Is it possible that all Road Scholar programs are this good?

I'm really at a loss as to how to expand upon what has already been written about this program for the itinerary, sites, and accommodations were outstanding. I might only add that our group leader, Elsa Savvas, was the best guide I have encountered to date on any tour group I have been a member of. She quickly let us know that she was in charge, shared her expectations with us, and then proceeded to win us over with her love of art and history. As a retired teacher, I admired her ability to quickly set her parameters while establishing camaraderie within the group. The Aegean Odyssey proved to be the perfect sized vessel for this adventure....very stable in open waters, yet small enough for passengers to navigate easily. My husband and I enjoyed being lulled to sleep each evening with an ocean breeze streaming through our open balcony door and did not miss the extra 'frills' found on larger ships which we've sailed on perviously. I would only caution that the activity level of this program is not overrated and you should expect to be challenged on some of your trips ashore. Be sure to bring along a pair of serious walking shoes and leave those fancy sandals on the ship for dress-up dinners, ladies. The ancient ruins are challenging for their rough, uneven surfaces with changes in elevations...

There was little about this trip that was not excellent. The group leader, itinerary, land accommodations, and ship (328 passengers on our trip) were excellent. The hotel in Athens was not within walking distance of anything of interest. (This may have been due to potential downtown demonstrations.) The crowds at the Parthenon, Blue Mosque, and Topaki Palace greatly detracted from the sites, but that is beyond control of Road Scholar. There is much walking on hard, uneven, unlevel surfaces. Nonetheless, there were people over 80 years old who actively participated throughout the entire trip. The trip exceeded my expectations. I enthusiastically recommend this trip to anyone interested in the itinerary.

This Voyage to Antiquity excelled in all respects. The excavations and remains of temples and ancient cities were awe-inspiring, made more wonderful and enjoyable by our impassioned guide. That, together with the beauty of the islands and the hustle and bustle of Istanbul, provided many lasting memories of a wonderful trip and fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Although I was sure that this would be a great Road Scholar adventure, I must say that it was much, much more that I expected. The tours of Istanbul and Athens were fantastic, and the local guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. Variations in the schedule were very helpful for not overloading us with too much at once (although in the end we did see everything in due time). Eleni Petroutsou, the group leader was exceptional and easily transmitted her passion for Greek mythology and history to all of us. The Aegean Odyssey was an excellent choice for cruising at a human level without all of the frills and exaggerations of mega cruise ships. The service and staff were exceptional, the lectures were very enlightening, and the cuisine was varied and quite creative. I would highly recommend this trip.

The Voyage to Antiquity trip just completed with Road Scholar was great, a wonderful leader, Eleni, who led the group with humor and intelligence, also good local leaders, going to ancient places in Turkey, the Greek Islands, and Greece. The other people in the group contributed to just a fantastic time.

This trip was one of the best Road Scholar programs I have taken. The scenery, the places we visited and the people we met were unsurpassed. I wish all trips were as good as this one.

This was a superb experience. Led by a warm, knowlegeable leader, we engaged with a wide sweep of history extending from pre-history, through the Byzantine empire, then the Ottoman period to modern times. The accomodatons were excellent, the field trips well organized, and the islands beautiful. Istanbul was exotic, and, as to be expected on a Road Scholars program, our companions were experienced travellers who shared a coomon enthusiasm for learning. Very highly recommended.

The web site is very slow and pages often fail to load. The content is fine but the servers appear to be inadequate.

We have traveled extensively and have led over 20 groups on international travel. This trip was one of the finest that we have experienced. Our leader Eleni was supoerior in every way - teaching us, leadings us and smoothing the way through rocky moments. We learned, laughed, ate well and felt renewed. Thanmk you Eleni, Vloyages to Antiquity, and the whole Road Scholar team.
