Program #7058RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

LaHonda Jo Morgan Nov 23, 2014 at 08:45 PM Hey, everyone. Back home again after an incredibly fun, intense and productive week of genealogical research. We all learned lots of new information/resources, and sometimes whimsical tidbits. We had great instructors and guides, busy but not too demanding a schedule and I believe each person came away with new information, connections, insights and firmly vowing to "really get organized" and move any brickwall research right back another generation or two. I daresay there are folks already checking their calendars for repeat performance next year. Accomodations were excellent and our every need was anticipated and tended to by Catherine Dodson who was the administrative program manager. Donna Shumate was primary instructor, and Shirley was her ever present assistant. These three ladies made ever minute of our experience the best it could be. Three cheers and a flagship salvo for them. Hope to see them again next year when I have worked my research into another swamp or brickwall. Jo Morgan

We had an incredible week. Anyone researching Virginia ancestors will have a very successful experience with this class. Instructor Donna Shumate was an excellent guide, and her assistant Shirley Rudin was very helpful, making sure we were finding the information we needed to further our research. This class is an excellent way to learn what the Library of Virginia has available and the best ways to use all that this library has to offer. I greatly appreciate this opportunity and the friendships made.

This was my first Road Scholar trip, but it will not be the last. The group leader, the instructor, the lecturer and all the staff were outstanding. I am a novice, more or less, at genealogy and was made to feel so comfortable and given very much assistance. I highly recommend this program to those without much experience or to those who are learned in the field. I cannot say enough good about my experience. Thanks to all, including my fellow participants. Brenda H.

If your family history has beginnings in Virginia you will gain much from this program weather beginner or experienced researcher.

Marilou from Weems, VA Number of programs attended: 16
Date attended: 01/26/14 - 01/31/14
The content of the program, instructor Donna Shumate and evening speaker, Edwin Slipek were exceptional. The majority of the class were novices at genealogy - am amazed at how much we learned in just a few days.
