Shakespeare's classics have stood the test of time because they remind us of how human we really are. The festival is filled with laughter and sorrow and everything in between. A great chance to be revitalized and given new eyes for this world of tragedy and joy.

I have come to Ashland for the Road Scholar program, "Inside the Oregon Shakespeare Festival" each year for the past five years. Each year, the plays chosen for the program are outstanding and a good mix of classics and new plays. For me, the best part of the program is having actors come and talk about the roles they are playing and about their careers in and out of the company. It is always so insightful to hear how they decided on a career in the theater and how different their experiences have been. In addition, seeing the people who do the scenery, costumes, hair and wigs gives an added dimension to the plays we see. Going with Road Scholar means not worrying about choosing accommodations and finding restaurants and getting to the play house on time. If there is a problem, the local host is ready with assistance and each year, I have met a different friendly and helpful resident of Ashland who loves OSF. The program allows me to relax and enjoy a wonderful matinee or evening in the theater.

This is an outstanding program of theater, lectures and tours of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. You get excellent background material for the plays you will attend, And you will meet the actors and others who work to put on the plays. Highly recommended.

A delightful five days were spent at the Ashland Shakespeare Festival in August. The plays, actors, accommodations, food and our coordinator were exceptional. We plan on going again next year.

We attend live theater in the Silicon Valley every year. We also go to the Shakespeare Festival at UC Santa Cruz most years. The Ashland company is outstanding. The plays (we saw four by staying an extra day) were all superb. The program coordinator, Wayne Schumacher, started us off Sunday with an outstanding photo history presentation of Ashland. The actors and supporting staff that came and talked with us before and after each play were awesome. We learned about everything from costumes to fighting safely to speaking with the proper accent. This is an event to repeat if you like live theater.

I cannot praise this program high enough!

Annette does marv'lous work in all she does,

In organizing topics for the class,

In driving us to every spot on time

Without a glitch and always with a smile.

Her speakers were of quality extreme,

And we all reaped the benefits thereof.

(Apologies to Terri McMahon!)

The lectures before and after the theatre experience make it all the more valuable. The people attending the program were interesting and provided their own insights. A great program with a great leader.

Suzanne from Beaverton, OR Number of programs attended: 26
Date attended: 06/02/13 - 06/07/13
Iam a Shakespeare newbie and learned so much in the program about the plays, staging, and acting. Of the three plays I saw, I liked Shrew, loved the Unfortunates, and loved-loved-loved King Lear. Quickly forgot I did not speak olde English and sobbed outragishly (I was not the only one.) Already planning a return trip. Accomodations were not fabulous, but who cares.

George from Berkeley, CA Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 05/05/13 - 05/10/13
A great program for people who like plays and/or Shakespeare

Gerald from Portland, OR Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 05/05/13 - 05/10/13
This program was a great success from almost every standpoint. (The minor exception was the initial lack of soap, shampoo and facial tissues in the room - soon taken care of). The program coordinator, Wayne Schumacher, was all that one would desire for the one who makes things work. The logistics worked beautifully. The classes were given by exceptional individuals who were all articulate, well informed and personable. The tours at OSF were interesting and equally well lead. This is a program to repeat year after year.

Dorothy from Oakland, CA Number of programs attended: 14
Date attended: 10/07/12 - 10/12/12
Even though we were relative newbies to Shakespeare we enjoyed the program and learned a great deal about theater. We really enjoyed the discussions between presenters and the avid Shakespeare theater goers. The group was wonderfully friendly and helpful to us.

David from Philadelphia, PA Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 10/07/12 - 10/12/12
This is a program that gives much more than the description promises. Meetings and classes with the people who prepare the shows for production - designers, set builders, costumers - and with actors and actresses add depth, warmth and excitement to the experience of enjoying plays with other who share your enthusiasm for theatre.

This is a Wonderful Week of Theatre. Attend Theatre at this National Treasure, sharing classroom with interesting and curious elders, learning about the plays to be seen from members of the cast and staff makes for a priceless experience. Our group leader, Wayne Schumacher, included education about the city of Ashland, as he artfully conducted a truly memorable week.
