17 Days | 16 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Wonderful trip but be prepared for lots of climbing of stairs and difficult walking terrain. A walking stick was very helpful.

Irving from Seattle, WA Number of programs attended: 10
Date attended: 11/02/13 - 11/15/13
This was a wonderful trip, despite the fact that Egypt was removed. However Petra was marvelous, Wadi Rum exceeded my expectations; it was mesmerizing! Our overall"minder", Jon was great. Irv, Seattle

This trip more than met my expectations. The time spent is Jordan was a real eye-opener for me. Petra was fabulous but Wadi Rum really blew me away- just spectacular.

Les from Jefferson City, MO Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 11/02/13 - 11/15/13
This was the most educational of our fifty-country-visitations.

Thomas from Fredericksburg, TX Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/12/13 - 10/25/13
The new itinerary without Egypt gives a more in depth presentation of Israel and Jordan. The sites visited in Israel are well known, and well worth the visit, especially with the excellent guide we had. Jordan was so much more than Petra. It had many highlights, especially Wadi Rum. The desolation was fantastic.

Your early morning thoughts are well taken, Leigh. Yes, it's clear that august empires crumble despite the most well honed myths/religions/power that prop them up. What also glitters amongst the rubble are the architectural achievements, complex socio-economic systems, psychological insights and creativity. I don't see history as linear but perhaps more cyclical, discursive, episodic. What we may take away from it all is Shelley's Ozymandias ~ a cautionary tale. BTW, thanks for your kind thoughts about NYC. I'm fine but Toby & Richard had to flee to a friend's home. They're still w/o power, heat, hot water. Much of NYC/NJ is still trapped in the Frankenstorm nightmare.

Early morning thoughts prompted by the "Journey of a Lifetime": keep people employed - build, decorate, and stock pyramids, temples, and churches. Seriously, why does a society amass so much of its intellectual and physical power to preserve its dead rulers and honor and propiatiate its gods. What does this past tell us about the present? Water, then as now, the final arbitrator. I have new images to hang on the word 'desert'. To gaze on the crumbled remains of well established societies and then return to the East Coast to gaze on the remains of much of the New Jersey shore and some of New York City - how are you, Toby and Dina? Brings home to me that life is transient and certainly is a myth. Much to think about.

We have traveled with Road Scholar several times, and because I am "gluten-free", I am very aware of the menus served, and Road Scholar has always done an outstanding job accommodating my special menu needs, and I very much appreciate that.

Paul from Chelmsford, MA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/13/12 - 10/29/12
Approaches on life altering. Totally filled of great surprises and it's a growth experience to understand another part of the world in totality versus the drips and drabs we get in the states. Expect a lot of walking and a lot of information. This should be about 6 CEUs (continuing education credits). The guides are top rate. Additional special speakers added a lot giving different perspectives. The bar is raised for certain foods (cucumbers are out of this world). There is a good overview of and seeing critical historical sites for the Abrahamic religions.
