6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

As a first Road Scholar participant, this experience exceeded all my expectations. There was a good balance of lectures, trips and free time. The quality of speakers/educators was superb. They were knowledgeable, prepared and passionate. I learned so much about San Antonio and the history of this region of Texas.

This program was an excellent overview of Texas and San Antonio history for a first-time Texas visitor. So much went on in the San Antonio area that was pivotal in Texas history.

I loved my experience, the people and the program in San Antonio. The hotel was gorgeous, the meals were fabulous, and the complimentary hospitality gathering provided by the hotel allowed us all free drinks and appetizers while chatting with new friends. Margie was fabulous, and my group was warm, bright, and super sweet to be around and share the excitement of San Antonio's history and charm. Fabulous journey, we had such fun !!

Natalie from Jackson, MS Number of programs attended: 9

This was an excellent way to experience San Antonio. The balance between lectures and excursions and between indoor time and outdoor time was good; there was enough free time to do some independent exploring; our leader (Millie) and her assistants were well-organized, knowledgeable, and personable; and the other participants were super (something that Road Scholar can't control, of course, but maybe it's significant that really great people chose this particular program).

Barbara from Santa Rosa, CA Number of programs attended: 35
Date attended: 11/17/13 - 11/22/13
Some walking, okay for me, but way too much unnecessary standing.

Cindy from Grants Pass, OR Number of programs attended: 1

This program was a surprising delight! The accommodation was lovely as were the meals. But the best were the wonderful lecturers and local guides we had. I have never experienced a walking tour that was so much fun!

So much more history in SanAntonio than I knew. It is much larger than I thought. If you tried to eat at a differnt place each day,I have no idea how long it would take. Quite a variety of places to eat.

San Antonio is fascinating and gives you a clear understanding of Texas and its history ....and Texans! Aside from the beautiful setting by the River Walk, it was so much fun.

Martha from Jamesville, NY Number of programs attended: 12

Everything about Signature San Antonio is so special because the group size was divided for personal attention on field trips, the leaders and classes were very different to give us a complete experience in the city. We enjoyed everyone who attended. Our director, Margie Strayer, chose restaurants and activities to give us choices, we were filled in every way. Thank you all.

The organization and variety of this program was superior. History, stories (tall or not), walking tours, museums, missions, restaurants, historic lodging on the River Walk. It's more than the Alamo!

Patricia from New City, NY Number of programs attended: 22
Date attended: 04/14/13 - 04/19/13
This program was outstanding. The coordinator was highly organized and everything ran smoothly. The speakers all had wonderful outgoing personalities and presented material in a stimulating manner. The hotel was terrific. I left feeling enriched. In all, I would highly recommend this program. Pat from NY

Joan from Roanoke, VA Number of programs attended: 11
Date attended: 04/14/13 - 04/19/13
Overall, an excellent program but it involved too much walking. The first day (Monday) was particularly difficult, with a lot of walking followed by a boat cruise at night. It would have helped to spread the activities out over the week a bit. The lectures were great and the hotel was fabulous. I'd recommend the program, especially if it involved a slower pace.

Helen from Amherst, MA Number of programs attended: 78
Date attended: 04/14/13 - 04/19/13
This was a wonderful program. San Antonio is a great place to visit and learn about. The previous reviews are still true.

Madeline from Dallas, TX Number of programs attended: 0

This was my 1st Road Scholar trip and it will not be my last. The leader (Margie) was outstanding and the group was welcoming to me (the only Texan)and everyone had glowing reviews of their previous trips - so I have decided this is a great way to travel. Thanks to all of the participants in this trip (March 17/22) hope to see y'all again. Madeline

If you are considering a Road Scholar program, think about San Antonio, TX. The diversity of the program is outstanding and the guides are not only knowledgeable, but so accomodating! A great trip!

Ann from Washington, DC Number of programs attended: 11

Lectures on San Antonio Now and Then and on Mary Menger, Alamo Proprietress were particularly good. Walking tour of downtown including La Villita and the Alamo, the walking tour of the King William District, the coach tour to the McNay Art Museum and San Jose Mission, the river walk barge cruise and the visit to the Insitute of Texan Cultures were all good. Public transportation was used on 3 days and it is easy to use. A coach bus was used on one day. There are stairs to the River Walk, but elevators and ramps can be found here: http://www.sanantonio.gov/publicworks/dao/riverwalkmap.aspx

Jeff from Yakima, WA Number of programs attended: 1

San Antonio In Miniature by Jeff Nelson How I asked and why? last week before I came. Then I was red or blue I asked, how could you be that? How and why? Today in San Antonio the real America. The real story, I think. And people from east and west from north and south. First strangers, now friends. No red or blue, just people just friends, just Americans. San Antonio in miniature.

William from Fredonia, WI Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 02/10/13 - 02/15/13

The program instructors/coordinators were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and kind.
