This program was very informative and enjoyable. It accommodated the new birders like us as well as the seasoned ones. Our cottage was beautiful and comfortable. Of course, my fellow participants were very interesting and lots of fun. It was a wonderful experience.

Birding the Lowcountry was an outstanding program. We were novice birders and feel that our knowledge of birds increased exponentially on our trip. The program, instructors, accommodations, and meals all combined to exceed our expectations.

Our first Road Scholar trip has set the bar high. From the tranquil beauty of the Palm Key community to our well organized and friendly host, we felt immediately at ease. We shared scrumptious home cooked meals with great folks from all over. We were the least experienced of the group and everyone made us feel welcome including our terrific instructors. They taught us to look and listen. We came away encouraged and inspired. The entire adventure exceeded our expectations.

As a relatively novice birder, and a definite novice with shore birds, this was the perfect trip for me. The leaders were very encouraging and informative, and the other participants were all willing to share their varied knowledge and experience. A big plus for me was the accommodations in a somewhat secluded and extremely quiet and beautiful area on the edge of the marsh, nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss. And this trip should be subtitled, "with Low Country culture and cuisine." Every meal was outstanding and the additional presentations on Low Country art and culture were the perfect accompaniment to the birding.

f you think you're going to be in a cramped little cottage at Palm Key you are mistaken. When we entered Cottage #23 we were greeted by beautiful views of the marshes beyond the back porches (one on each floor). There were 2 spacious bedrooms with private baths on each floor. On the first floor there was a living/dining/kitchen area also spacious with comfortable furniture and beautiful decor. A laundry room was also at your disposal if you needed to wash a few things (bring your own soap). We had breakfast and dinner at Cottage #49. All meals were healthy, delicious and plentiful. After breakfast a lunch buffet was available for us to make our own lunches, bag them and place them in insulated bags for our picnic lunch in the field. Our field trips were at various habitats and we saw over a hundred species during the week. Our hosts, guides and chef were personable, patient and fun to be with. This trip is one we will always remember and share with others. There may be some concern with individuals anticipating the sharing of accommodations with "strangers"; but if anything it added to the experience. We were blessed with 3 other couples whose enjoyment of the trip added to our own enjoyment.
