If you have never seen (or maybe have seen in the past) Portugal you will love taking a tour with Helena and road Scholar. You will learn so much about this country and its importance in wold history (as well as having a wonderful time).

I've been traveling with RS to iconic European cities to catch up with my dreams. This riverboat trip in Portugal, as I imagined, would be a different journey. I had no preconceived images of the country. That provided a unique learning experience, led by an expert. And I like different landscapes. You also get to stay in two important Portugese cities. Slower pace, as you'd expect boat travel to be.

This was an excellent program. The service and food on the cruise portion was exceptional. Portugal is an amazing place to visit and the guide Helena is very well versed on attractions and the history of her country. I highly recommend this program.

An EXTRAORDINARY trip! I couldn't have been more pleased with everything, even tho it was unexpectedly hot in Lisbon. :-) There are not enough superlatives to describe our tour leader. Fran in Berkeley, CA

The Portuguese phrase 'Gold over Blue' means 'The Greatest'. Everyone on this tour was superb. Our group leader Helena was unbeatable. Our driver excellent. The boat and staff were attentive to everything needed to make the cruise memorable. In short, the whole tour was Gold over Blue!!

This program was very well run. Helena did a great job, with the lectures, program and field trips. The food was very good. A nice selection of Portugal food and drink. Our bus driver was excellent. I enjoyed the boat. It was interesting to talk to a few of the other passengers from other countries. Our group was excellent. Everyone got along so well. I highly recommend this program.

Time in Lisbon was tops. Helena one of the best guides we have met with Road Scholar. River Duoro portion lacking abit. Ship and crew disappointing as our group was overwhelmed by predominantly French parties. Duoro área interesting but lacks any major point of interest.

Super program, one of the best we've attended. The combination of a great river cruise and then 3 nights in Lisbon was delightful. Food and acomodations were top notch. Much credit goes to the coordinator (Helena), an energetic soul who was an endless source of information on history, culture, and life in Portugal.

This program is full of diverse experiences,(city and countryside; history and present day; wine and food) multiple modes of travel and led by one of the best! Be prepared for a lot of walking on cobblestone streets and many stairs/steps! An "invisible" country has become alive and much more appreciated!
