ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.

ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was a great trip. Besides being very educational, it was fun seeing all the places where the artist lived and worked and seeing our favorite pictures up close in beautiful settings.

What a fantastic experience! I chose this program because it included three things on my bucket list – Monet’s Giverny, The Chunnel and the QM2 – and I was not disappointed. The program was well designed, allowing enough time for each stay and activity. I was particularly impressed with the Musée d’Orsay which is in the former Paris-Orleans Train Station, an architectural gem built in 1900. Our Paris guide/lecturer, James M’Kenzie-Hall, was very knowledgeable and interacted well with the group. As questions were raised, James followed up with information he was able to gather, even providing new handouts. Leaving Paris on The Eurostar – Chunnel – we traveled smoothly at 186 mph, getting us to London in under 3 hours. Following a brief tour of London we visited the Courtauld Gallery, where I was finally able to view Èdouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère. We then boarded the Queen Mary 2 and headed for NYC. On board, our lecturer, Elizabeth Anderson, provided informative, interesting talks about some of the art which we had already seen and much of what was to come at the The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. Following a smooth debarkation at a Brooklyn pier, we visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, then traveled on to Philadelphia. There, Margaret “Pixie” Biddle gave us the history of Dr. Barnes and his collection, and told us what to expect at the new facility: hundreds of works by Renoir, Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Seurat and many others. We also visited The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Rodin Museum, which houses the largest collection of Rodin’s works outside Paris. This program ran smoothly due to excellent planning and scheduling, exceptional lecturers, a very capable and pleasant group leader, Valerie Hershfield, and a group of Road Scholars who were enthusiastic and obviously enjoyed this experience. I highly recommend this program

The French Impressionism - Paris to Philadelphia program offers variety and interest for those interested in the topic. The trips to places in Paris and Philadelphia as well as the places in between were interesting and very educational. The trip on the Queen Mary !! was also a joy.
