Yosemite National Park in October is a winner with Naturalist David Lukas!

Joan from Plano, TX Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 10/11/15 - 10/16/15
October was the best time to visit even though some of the water in the waterfalls and rivers were low or non-existent. Nevertheless, there is so much else to appreciate as the passion and enthusiasm of our Naturalist, David Lukas, were shared and became contagious. Lodging in the Park is a plus in order to have the time, both free and as a group, to participate in as much as possible. The program was well organized by Frank, and the bus driver, Tom, even stopped on a "dime" so we could see some bears at a lake. All the participants were very friendly and mixed well together. This is one National Park program not to miss!

Yosemite valley is awesome. Excellent program. First Road Scholar trip and I will definitely take another

Thoroughly enjoyable program. David was the absolute best guide we could have had. The Lodge was convenient, comfortable, and of course, had spectacular views. We had enough free time to take leisurely walks on the many trails available. My fellow program participants were an especially friendly group, which made the entire experience even better.

One of the best that Sharon and I attended. Location of the Lodge, the great bus driver Dave, the wonderful naturalist David, the fellow program members, the group leader Barbara, and on and on. One of my favorite things is that, on this our eighth visit to Yosemite, I did not have do drive and could enjoy the scenery so much more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this program and would highly recommend it. The Inn is right in Yosemite - at Yosemite Falls. Perfect location! Food, transportation, excursions, free time, group leader, naturalist, driver, companions - all were GREAT!

Excellent program. Before joining we spent three nights in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. I understand there is another program featuring all three and would suggest looking into this option because you really should see all of them!

Yosemite stands on its own as a transcendent experience, but our wonderful leader Barbara Crossland, our naturalist David Lukas and the program participants made it even more so. The park is crowded in the summer, but you don't feel that way on this trip because of the organized schedule and the great bus experiences (our driver, Dave, was awesome!) Every outing was very personal and special, with learning I can't imagine anyone else in the park was getting. The lodge location made everything very easy, including walk and shuttle access to anything you might want to do in your flex time. Thank you, Barbara, David, Dave and Road Scholar!

Yosemite is a wonderful National Park with a great variety of awe-inspiring scenery and wildlife habitats to be enjoyed on the tour. The park can be very crowded at most of the scenic areas visited on the program so it may be difficult to enjoy the sense of wilderness that can be had in the park on this tour especially when in the valley region.

The natural beauty we discovered exceeded our expectations. We saw and learned so much more than we could have on our own. Wonderful program, location, food, instructors, driver and fellow participates made this trip a joy!

I have little to add to what Cynthia wrote, but wanted to add my thumbs up. We loved this trip. Sheila and the two Davids were terrific, making sure we got to see everything we were hoping to see, and their commentary provided great context. The Lodge at the Falls was perfectly situated to give us views of Yosemite Falls. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

An excellent program, well organized but not rushed. David Lukas the naturalist has a real talent for conveying facts in an entertaining way. We didn't just stay in the (hot) Valley but went up to Glacier Point and looked down just as John Muir and TR did. We learned that sequoia cones are photosynthetic and taste sweet, and that Belding's Ground Squirrels hibernate about 9 months of the year in Tuolumne Meadow. Saw glacier-polished granite, watched the climbers on El Capitan through David's scope, which was as close as I wanted to be to that experience! Lunch at the Ahwahnee Hotel let us briefly into the lives of the rich and famous. Sheila Toner was a super leader and we felt very safe in the bus due to the skill of our driver, David Harkness.

Wonderful way to experience the vastness of Yosemite. Our leaders gave tirelessly of their time and knowledge of the area. David Lukas made Yosemite come alive with his stories and nature facts. Having lodging in the Park allowed us to walk and use the free park shuttle to visit areas not included in our program during "down time". Even managed to attend 3 evening Ranger Programs on my own. Would highly recommend this program.

If you wish to visit a wild and beautiful place, an outdoor cathedral of awesome magnificence, and learn about it from an experienced and dedicated guide, share the experience with a Road Scholar group.

Yosemite National Park is beautiful. We loved the program and having a naturalist there to explain everything was wonderful. Because of David, we saw things we would never have noticed and understood more of what we were seeing. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with "John Muir" and appreciated even more the legacy left to us by the efforts of this one man. We highly recommend this trip. This was our first Road Scholar trip and it won't be our last.

If you desire to stay in and have a real meaningful and total immersion in this magnificent park, this is for you. It is not for those that are satisfied with a pass through a park.

Awesome program. David Lucas the naturalist guide isfabulous. Sheila, our attending roadscholar, and ken our bus driver..all great. Yosemite is amazing and if it's on your list..move it up. Loved it!

I suspect that seeing Yosemite Park with the Road Scholar Program is a more satisfying way to see the park than driving to the park and figuring out what to view when.

Margaret from Fort Wayne, IN Number of programs attended: 17

There were plenty of spots where one could disembark from the bus. Even if one did not explore the trails at some spots, there was an awesome view to keep one's attention. A person could see all parts of the park without the driving and planning. Additional hikes were optional; those who were more active and wanted to see some places that were not part of the tour participated; those who were less active enjoyed the free time. Overall we were a compatible group with similar iterests. Having had years of experience in the park, the guide shared his wealth of knowledge and personal experiences. A great way to see a beautiful national park.

This is a great way to see Yosemite. It was my first time in Yosemite and my first Road Scholar trip. I certainly recommend it.

This program, by staying deep within the Park, offers participants the full "park experience". Seeing the granite cliffs and spectacular waterfalls as soon as you awake sets the tone for a wonderful day of education and exploration. And, the sight of the sun setting on Half Dome just prior to bed is a memory that will remain with you the rest of your life.

Exceptional trip with plenty of time to explore and learn in Yosemite. Naturalist provided by Road Scholar did an exceptional job. Free time to hike/walk and explore was sufficient. Lodging within the park is a big bonus on any trip as it eliminates travel time and gives you more time to explore and learn. Would highly recommend this program.

This was a wonderful trip. Be sure to bring hiking poles if you use them. The rooms at Yosemite Lodge were great, new bathrooms and furniture. If heat bothers you, request a first floor room which were much cooler.
