While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

First Road Scholar trip, and I couldn't be more satisfied. Chincoteague Island is a fascinating place, and we got to dig in deep! We experienced the local color by listening to a waterman, a bird bander, two artists, a decoy carver, and more. All this was beautifully coordinated by our leader, Cindy, a warm and inviting natural storyteller and historian we all grew to love. The one thing that stole my heart: seeing those little wild ponies grazing in the distance (and a few times up close!). Each and every aspect of this trip . . . priceless!! I'll try new trips, but I really want to go back to Chincoteague.

I read Misty of Chincoteague as a child and was thrilled RS had a program there. It met my expectations in every way. Learned so much about the barrier islands, wild ponies and so much more.

An excellent program. It was well organized, with wonderful speakers and diverse presentations about the island, the people, and it's history; and of course the ponies and the Assateague Lighthouse were a special treat. It was also a pleasure to learn about the people of the island. They have a proud history and heritage of being watermen, and stewards of the land. They have survived wars, politics, and terrible storms. Our coordinator was terrific as were all the individuals involved who made the program the success it was. Thank you.

Informal introduction to a unique, down-home community where residents - people and Assateague ponies - live with the rhythms of the seashore, the tidelands and tourism. Learn history and peek into recent pony swims and pennings, dine on local seafood, get close-ups of oyster farming and decoy carving. Pleasant lodging with seacoast beauty just beyond your balcony.

If you ever read 'Misty of Chincoteague," this is the Road Scholar for you! It rates in the top 5 of my Road Scholar trips so far. Once again we saw what other vacationers are unable to see. We were so close to the ponies we could almost touch them through the bus windows. Wonderful rooms, marvelous seafood, great presenters and a terrific coordinator. Thank you so much Road Scholar.

This is my fourth Road Scholar trip and absolutely the best one yet. Wonderful leaders and speakers and the thrill of being so close to the ponies and learning all about the history of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. Wonderful, informative and enjoyable trip. Thanks to everyone at the Museum of Chincoteague for the program.
