Our trip to Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and the area was all we had hoped and more. Road scholar and its leader Garrett and instructors opened up a wonderful world....including geology, history, music, tales, insects and snakes, trains,.....loved every minute!

Bomar from Northville, MI Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 05/17/15 - 05/22/15
While the program overall was excellent, as a heart patient I had a problem with elevation changes that I'm not used to. This detracted somewhat from the overall experience.

Sara from Pine Knoll Shores, NC Number of programs attended: 1

Sedona was magical and the participants a delight to be with.

Judith from Denver, CO Number of programs attended: 3

Sedona is a beautiful location. Lots of interesting sights in and around the town. The food at the Golden Goose is outstanding! Bring a jacket!

Sibyl from Longont, CO Number of programs attended: 30

This program is well paced, and very interesting in content and field trips. The instructors are helpful to our understanding their subjects. I had a great experience.

Sylvia from Longmont, CO Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 03/23/15 - 03/28/15
Our visit to Sedona and area was a treasure chest of so many little gems. Every day brought great new adventures. The setting, the history, the music, the shopping all were great. Even the introduction to the local critters was fascinating. We truly enjoyed the people in our group. Only problem, we wanted to stay longer.

David from Shelton, WA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 04/06/15 - 04/11/15
This Sedona program was outstanding. We came away with much broader knowledge of the geography, cultural depth and history of the region, and with many new friends.

Adrian from Thousand Oaks, CA Number of programs attended: 2

Excellent knowledgable instruction

Bonnie from Woodstock, ON Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 03/01/15 - 03/06/15
This program truly hit the highlights, and whetted my desire to return and explore more. The accommodations were good, and the meals were great. Our fearless leader, Garett, was very patient and thorough in explanations. The evening programs were very good. I know the snow could not be planned, but perhaps a switch of trolley ride for movie history would have been a good call. An inspiring trip!

George from Le Roy, NY Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 02/15/15 - 02/20/15
This program was an outstanding adventure, for the beauty of the Sedona area, the tour leadership and sessions with Dr. Beus, and to escape snowey weather!

Susanne from Los Angeles, CA Number of programs attended: 3

It was a wonderful excursion in a fantastic landscape, something to see and marvel at.

Margaret from Ocean View, DE Number of programs attended: 1

The best program of its type! Learning and interacting with other educated individuals was fantastic. Garrett and Dr. Beus were absolutely terrific! Fabulous trip if you want to enjoy learning in depth information about geology and life within the Grand Canyon not to mention the great story telling from area experts!

Thomas from Tulsa, OK Number of programs attended: 3

Wonderful program. Coordinator Garret really know how to organize and get interesting speakers. Really enjoyed the Grand Canyon geology lecture and appreciated having the geology professor accompany us on the trip to the canyon. The Poco Diablo resort was a very nice place to stay.

Dorothy from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 1

This program is in a beautiful location, has excellent instructors, great field trips, and good accommodations in Sedona.

Bonnie from Culpeper, VA Number of programs attended: 4

Sedona is full of sunlight, energy and friendliness. The Grand Canyon is dramatic and beyond description. Only seeing it makes it believable. No picture gives the perspective that one enjoys seeing it. Just stay away from the edge! This is a wonderful educational trip. I recommend it highly!

Mary from Fort Collins, CO Number of programs attended: 4

Excellent, informative program that allows you to pick your level of physical effort.

Sharon from Olathe, KS Number of programs attended: 2

The scenery is breathtaking and the Pink Jeep Ancient Ruins tour was fantastic. Learned some interesting information on this trip, but also had to hear some biased 'preaching'. The group leader, Garrett, is fun and informative.

Jane from Canton, NC Number of programs attended: 3

Love Road Scholar tours. The convenience of only having to provide and plan transportation to and from tour sites is a PLUS for Road Scholar.

Veronica from norristown, PA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/21/14 - 09/26/14
This was my first Road Scholar program, so I did not know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised by--everything! The outings to see spectacularly beautiful locations, lectures presented by very knowledgeable and entertaining teachers, accomodations and meals, absolutely lovely, friendly participants. Also, last, but not least, the cost was extremely reasonable. Talk about getting the most bang for your buck! I strongly encourage anyone sitting on the fence to take a step forward and sign up for a Road Scholar program. This may have been my first, but it certainly won't be my last! Ronnie

Definitely would recommend this program. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and the surrounding area are well worth visiting with their breathtaking sites. Stan and Dennis were experts that made the program come alive!

Nancy from Avondale Estates, GA Number of programs attended: 1

This program was the perfect combination of education and entertainment. Speakers and tour guides were excellent and well prepared. Lectures on geology, anthropology/archaeology, native American culture, and local “critters” were comprehensive and so interesting—the time flew by! Our coordinator (Dennis) went above and beyond to meet our needs. We enjoyed meeting fellow participants, who seemed as enthusiastic about the program as we were. We would not change a thing! This was our first Road Scholar experience, but we’re already starting to plan for our next.

Brenda from Roswell, GA Number of programs attended: 2

Our Sedona trip was fabulous. This was only our second Road Scholar trip but both were exemplary. Well executed by everyone involved. If there weren't hundreds of other trips I wish to take, I would certainly do this one again. Dennis and Stan were great guides and wonderful people. We used Van Go Shuttle for an extended stay in Phoenix and Larry was hugely helpful in helping us chooose just the right things to do when we arrived. GO VAN GO.

This Grand Canyon program allows one to not only view one of the true wonders of the world but also to gather deep knowledge on how this spectacular formation was created. Moreover those with an interest on spirituality will be drawn to the vortex surrounding this region.

Pamela from Fort Washington, MD Number of programs attended: 1

This was my first time traveling alone and with the Road Scholars. The people I met were friendly and I felt welcome. Dennis is a wonderful group leader and the lectures be experts what a great learning experience. Sedona was awesome, I definitely recommend this program.

Cecelia from San Pedro, CA Number of programs attended: 1

This program not only met, but far exceeded my expectations in all aspects.

Susan from Jurupa Valley, CA Number of programs attended: 3

I wanted to see more of Sedona & chose this program to stay at a resort. I wasn't disappointed. The speakers were interesting & Dennis was a terrific group leader. This was my first time going it alone, but thanks to my other RS experiences I was confident I'd meet a lot of friendlt people, & I did. I always felt welcome in whatever group I sat with at meals. Beautiful country & interestilng speakers I definitely reccomend this program.

Wow and double wow. This trip was perfect for me......the resort, the lectures by expert experts, transportation, pacing, beauty of area was incredible. I could not have asked for anymore to be added or deleted. I recommend it highly. Trip was as advertised. It was just too short, of course which maybe a popular comment for many trips. Can't wait for the Hawaii cruise in Jan. Thanks guys. Nancyann Williams

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Sedona and the Grand Canyon. It is such a beautiful area and the Grand Canyon is simply magnificent, all of which was truly enhanced by the informative lectures and presentations.

This is a great program with great leaders. They were very knowledgeable of the area. We were hesitant about Super 8 Motel, but the service there was very good also. The Sedona area and Grand Canyon are just unbelievable. Shirley Barrett

This was truly an unforgettable experience. I made sure to pick a date when the program was based at the Poco Diablo Resort, rather than the Super 8 Hotel, and I'm glad I did. Staying at Poco Diablo made it so easy to immerse oneself in Sedono's amazing landscape--red rock buttes in all directions. In addition to the spectacular setting, the resort offers comfortable rooms(everyone had their own balcony), delicious food, an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, and spa services. I came home feeling energized by the fabulous Road Scholar program (Grand Canyon visit, Verde Valley train ride, great travelling companions, etc) and, at the same time, totally relaxed from my stay at Poco Diablo. Who could ask for anything more?

Beverley from Corvallis, OR Number of programs attended: 1

You will be delighted if you pick this program. You'll get an educational perspective of the Grand Canyon, see a cliff dwelling and petroglyphs, and much, much more, always being informed and entertained by knowledgeable staff.

Did not like the Super 8 motel...at all! It was sooooooo noisy with constantly slamming doors and people talking loudly in the hallway. Could easily hear the neighbors TV. The bathroom was the tiniest I have ever seen. The blankets were torn and had holes in them. The thermostat did not work; I set it at 70 and soon the room was at 76 and humid with condensation running down the window. The room felt generally dirty. Loved the activities and people, they were all great. Especially liked the critter lady, the musical duo and Garrett's old west movies demo, as well as the scenic features around the area. The geology professor talked way over my head since I have no background, so it was boring for me. They were very efficient at the Golden Goose restaurant but jammed too many people in too small of a space. My eggs were cold every morning, served with burnt toast and my husband's french toast was too horrible to describe. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the food and gave compliments so it must just be us. We ordered from the regular menu (fruit plate and toast) on the two additional mornings we stay and that was good. So bottom line -- the activities were very good, the accommodations, not good at all.

An absolutely marvelous trip. Garrett is the consummate tour leader - informative, flexible, and fun! We experienced the Grand Canyon and Sedona areas in a variety of ways - and I loved every moment!

This is a great program. The weather is wonderful and the scenery is outstanding. It is a treat.

Polly from Apex, NC Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful rock formations. The train ride through Verde valley was the highlight of the trip. With the government shutdown changes were made to fill in the gaps for the places we could not go. This did cause us to be rushed through the museums. Even with the changes, I would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

George from Vienna, VA Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
This program was very good, but was adversely affected by the shutdown of the National Parks. Road Scholar did an excellent job of making changes on the fly—it substituted a flight over the Grand Canyon for a day in the park, pun intended-- and the trip through the Verde Canyon was great. However, we did not visit Montezuma National Monument; instead visiting Douglas mansion in Jerome, AZ. The lecture by Dr. Stan Beus regarding the geology of the Grand Canyon was fantastic.

Deborah from Kempton, PA Number of programs attended: 10
Date attended: 09/09/13 - 09/14/13
I was a very interesting program. I would reccommend it to any one interested in Geology and animals in Grand Canyon. We learned a lot about the previous peoples who inhabited this area a very long time ago at Montezuma's castle and elsewhere in the Southwest.

Barbara from Janesville, WI Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/22/13 - 09/27/13
Sedona and the Grand Canyon are beautiful beyond words. I was in a new world nothing like my lovely midwest home. I'm so happy to have had this experience!

Evelyn from Easthampton, MA Number of programs attended: 24
Date attended: 09/09/13 - 09/14/13
I found this to be an excellent program in a fascinating part of the United States, and suggest that anyone who has not experienced the Southwest, consider participating.
