This trip was totally outstanding and amazing. I had no idea that Pissarro, Modigliani, Soutine, Rivera, Chagall and many other male and female artists painting in bohemian Paris in the early 20th century were all Jewish immigrants.
We learned so much about Jewish history as it relates to art, the ultra-right in Judaism, and the film industry here and in Israel. This was actually like a six-month course about the Jewish experience artfully rolled into six days.
John Paul Thornton is a wonderful charismatic, expressive and brilliant young art historian and artist. This wasn't a lecture, it was an experience. Eric Goldman was outstanding in clarifying how the American-Jewish and Israeli story has been told through the medium of cinema. He showed us so much that we did not see before. Ken Blady, raised in a Chassidic family in Brooklyn, shared his vast knowledge about the many different ultra-orthodox Jewish religious customs around the world. We were given opportunities to ask questions and discuss anything we always wanted to know.
I expected cafeteria style food, but was pleasantly surprised with the high quality. Most of us, from pastry lovers to health nuts like me, found the wonderful salads and everything from soup to nuts so well prepared and delicious; it was difficult to stop eating.

I had a wonderful time and enjoyed everyone of the lecturers but thought Thornton's program about Jewish artists in Paris was absolutely fantastic. The environment was beautiful and the air seemed totally free of pollution. My only recommendation would be to add more physical activity like the one nature walk we had. I returned home with a big smile on my face.

This was a great learning experience. The instructors were highly qualified and very friendly. They were easy to talk with and willing to take time to answer questions. They also sat with us during meals and added to the content of their lectures. All of the participants were friendly and cordial.
