A great way to learn about northern central Italy. Based sequentially in Lucca, Siena and Florence, this is a learning experience. From its Etruscan inhabitants who gave Tuscany its name, through the Roman period, the fall of Rome, to the Middle Ages and Renaissance, to the modern Italy, there is a wealth of history and culture. Via Francegenia came through this part of Italy, going through Lucca and Siena as well as the smaller villages we visited. The churches and cathedrals are beautiful and amazing, and the city walls of Lucca are the most complete I have seen. The lectures were a valuable part of the experience, and we appreciated the food of Tuscany all the more when we learned that the Italian American heritage is largely from southern Italy. Our trip leader, Bianca, was just what we needed to make the trip more enjoyable.

Tuscany is beautiful and the food is delicious. Our leader, Bianca, was knowledgeable, personable, able to answer any question and kept us on schedule. This is a great tour.

This program far exceeded my expectations. The Tuscany area of Italy is absolutely amazing. One can only imagine the beauty that will surround them during the trip. The meals were fantastic. The instructional quality is A plus. Road Scholar does a great job with the itinerary. We went to some many exciting places. I want to return to "Bella Italia" again with and see more of this beautiful country. Thank you Road Scholar.

This was a wonderfully orchestrated trip. Our group leader, Bianca, was wonderful. She shared her vast knowledge of the region, the history, the people and discussed current day issues. The local guides were very impressive and provided the group with a deeper knowledge of Tuscany. The beautiful churches, museums, Michael Angelo's sculptures, the Puccini concert are just a few of the highlights of this trip. The restaurants, the regional food and wine, and our fellow Road Scholars were frosting on the cake for a very memorable trip.

This was a perfectly balanced trip for anyone wishing to visit Tuscany. The itinerary included very small towns like Sam Gimiganano and Pienza; medium sized like Lucca and Massa-Carrara; and larger like Siena, Pisa and Florence. Also a great balance between city and countryside; art/culture and fun/food. The itinerary seemed designed such that every time you started to get slightly exhausted or overloaded, magically there was free time to do what you wanted. Also meals - wonderful food in the group settings and every now and then a chance to explore on your town to find nearby restaurants ranked high on Trip Advisor. Bianca is the most fantastic leader you could ever ask for. Lastly, RS seems to attract truly wonderful people and our small group of 24 was the best! As a solo woman traveler on my first RS trip, I could not have been more happy and welcomed. Ciao!

Our first trip with Road Scholar, our first time to Europe as a couple in 43 years, and the trip was seamless from start to finish! The tour group size of 24 was perfect for learning and socializing as well. Our tour leader & instructors were very knowledgeable about their subject matter. The accommodations were very comfortable and well located for all activities. The meals delicious and very enjoyable thru out our entire trip. There was not one disappointment! Based on my experience,if you love traveling and learning, I would highly recommend any of the Road Scholar trips that will take you to a place you want to visit.

A truly once in a lifetime experience. The history was remarkable, the small villages we visited were out of the storybooks, food was exceptional and our tour director was knowledgeable and personable.

Our first trip to Europe was with Road Scholar. It was our dream trip to Italy and Road Scholar did not disappoint. Everything was perfect and ran smoothly and everyone involved, the guides, the booking agents, even the bus drivers were fantastic. This is what I hope to be just the start of our adventures with Road Scholar. Strongly recommend them! Lisa of Zionsville, PA

Excellent program, with a good overview of the diversity of Tuscany, from cities to hilltowns to countryside. Luca and Siena were my favorites, with excellent hotels. Included meals in all places were excellent. The program included a variety of experiences, including visits to agriturismos, winetastings, a performance, as well as guided walks. Highly recommended, even if you have visited Tuscany previously.

Top rated team. Excellent special talks and walks to places off the beaten track. Luca is a delight, not yet invaded by tourist hoards.

Excellent program- you will enjoy every moment! Try to get a room at the back of both hotels in Siena and Florence- street facing rooms are noisy!

Visiting the wineries was educational and exhilarating. I felt as though I belonged in Lucca and the surrounding Tuscany beauty of rolling hills, olive trees and grape vines.

I attended this program 9/21-10/4,and was so impressed with Jane Bacon, our group leader, and the local guides. A well organized trip. Loved everything about it: the Tuscan countryside(with tastings/meals at many vineyards), the cooking class, and the beautiful cities of Lucca, Siena, and Florence.

This trip was highly educational, well paced, covered most aspects of the beautiful Tuscan countryside as well as explaining the artistic works and artists of the 14th and 15th centuries working and living in middle Italy.

This was a very active tour! Rough uneven walkways, many steps to climb in Siena. I fell into bed each night exhausted trying to ease my aching legs. Still I am glad that I went and survived! Tuscany is beautiful and the towns are full of very old interesting buildings and cathedrals. I saw paintings and sculptures that I have heard of and never thought I would see. Our leader got us into museums without a long wait. There were crowds everywhere from all over the world, very interesting. The Pisa tower does lean!

Classic Tuscany and the Treasures of Florence was amazing. I gazed in wonder at the art, the architecture of the medieval Tuscan towns and the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The guide was upbeat and frindly and the group soon bonded to make the trip a memorable experience.

This trip was amazing! We learned a lot about Tuscany and the history of the area. We even had a cooking class and now I will be able to treat my friends to a Tuscan meal! If you want to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany at a leisurely pace including wine tasting and a visit to an olive orchard , this is the trip for you!
