This was a well-balanced program of lectures, tours, demonstrations, and entertainment. I learned so much about the history and culture of Charleston. The hotel accommodations were excellent, and all food served was incredibly delicious.

Charleston at Christmas was an interesting, fun program. The activities were well-organized and worthwhile. Judi Edgar is a wonderful group leader. And Ruth Miller as a guide was delightful. If you go on this trip, definitely try to get in her group. It was nice to have some options if inclined to do more walking/touring the neighborhood. Just 1 note: be sure to pack bug spray - the mosquitoes are out even in the winter.

What a wonderful way to spend Christmas for anyone looking for a new holiday tradition. Judi is an outstanding leader, the tours were great, and I cannot say enough about the incredible food (including a cooking class). The Mills House is elegant and Charleston itself is a lovely place to be any time of the year (except summer, of course). And as always, I love spending time with other Road Scholars... active people who enjoy learning & exploring more than shopping.

This was a well organized program. The hotel was very good and the food was excellent. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The places we visited were lovely and worth the time. Just be aware that you will be shown only the "Disneyfied" view of Charleston that draws the tourists in but you will learn next to nothing about real life in present day Charleston.

I loved this program. Charleston is a beautiful, charming, friendly city, and spending Christmas there with a great group of Road Scholars was perfect. The balance of activities was good: lecture/discussion of Charleston's history, excursions to a home in Charleston and to plantations/gardens near Charleston, a neighborhood walk filled with local history, visiting the "Festival of Lights" on James Island, attending a cooking demonstration that was both informative and fun, and going to The Circular Church for a performance of "The Sound of Charleston." The hotel (Mills House) was outstanding, and the food we had both at the hotel and elsewhere was superb. Judi, our leader, was an ideal leader: knowledgeable, well organized, and personable. She clearly loves her work and seemed not to view it as work at all. As should be apparent by now, I highly recommend Christmas in Charleston. Charleston is a delightful place to spend the holidays and this Road Scholar program has provided us with many fond holiday memories. The opportunity to view the city on our bus tour with such informative guides was wonderful. Having the Palmer House in the Battery open for our viewing, and then being served lemonade and cookies was a pleasant surprise. Both plantations, Middleton and Magnolia, were interesting and beautiful. Cooking school, of course, is always fun on a Road Scholar program. I would recommend this program to anyone seeking a holiday adventure.

Do spend Christmas in Charleston especially if the housing is at the Mills House Hotel. You will not be disappointed, in fact, you will find it an enchanting holiday learning experience.
