See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The cost of this program tends to exclude most ethnicities, and (I think) attracts mostly white, university educated, and well-heeled participants.

Fabulous trip. Everything I've ever heard about barge trips is true, and more. A chef who catered to individual dietary needs, a leader who was incredibly knowledgeable, gorgeous countryside and lots of walking opportunities, plus the usual array of wonderful sites and activities that one finds on a RS trip.

A trip planned and executed by Road Scholar is every bit as good as the more expensive trips available.

Our barge trip to study Barbizon-Impressionist art and artists was a dream come true. Field trips away from the canal each day took us to sites where we could see what the artist had painted. We were enriched by roaming midevil villages, contemporary artists' studios, chateaux. Life on the beautifully appointed Fleur was serene and peaceful as we negotiated the locks and floated quietly through the French countryside. Our chef into duced her self by saying we really had nothing to fear from a thin chef with a clean smock who rode off on her foldable bicycle each day to get the freshest strawberries, apricots, cheese and bread. The food was delicious! I would go back in a minute to do this one again!
