somewhere, somehow, and somewhat the people we meet on our trip--compassion exchange. Love expand and prejudice shrunk. Turkey and her people now have a special place in my heart Phan Barker, visual artist, Volcano, Hawaii

I cannot say enough about how much I loved this RS program! Our guide was beyond compare, and the sights and culture of Turkey are delightful! If you are equivocating about this program, GO! Turkey is an amazing country and RS did an excellent job in creating and implementing this program.

This turned out to be the trip of a lifetime. Sami Ozcini, our leader, was wonderful, warm, expert, patient and generous with his time and knowledge. The museums were wonderful, and the balloon ride over Cappodocia should not be missed! The time on the gulet was relaxing and fun, and the setting in old Istanbul (Sultanamet) was truly overwhelming! I was concerned about the "moderately challenging" description, but was able to manage just fine. You should go!!!

The extension provides an opportunity to experience more of Istanbul's wonderful museums, interesting neighborhoods and something of life in this amazing city. It should not be missed!

I heartily recommend the Istanbul Extension, as a way to better understand contemporary Turkey and to view some amazing museums. Special note: don't let the title of "Istanbul Modern" turn you off. I'm generally not a fan of modern art, but this museum was full of fascinating, thoughtful, probing displays.

My recommendation is to stay for the Extension if you want a slower pace with lots of free time to explore Istanbul on your own. After two weeks of intensive traveling, some folks were ready to go home, but we all enjoyed the extension once we got into it. You have afternoons free to do that and the program is focused primarily on museums. It's a shame the Suleiman Mosque complex is not included, but you have time to visit it on your own. Don't discount hte Istanbul Modern Museum as just being modern art--it's full of interesting exhibits and videos. We increased our proposed timing from 30 to 60 minutes but could have spent lots more time there.

Excellent tour and guide. Quick paced, seamless, varied. Our guide Yesim went beyond expectations. If you want to leave Turkey and feel you've actually tasted another, albeit complex, culture. this is it. Why did we wait so long?!

Delightful combination of urban and rural sites; trip includes many different geographical areas and three different oceans. Driving through the countryside was added treat. The layers of history in this crossroads of culture that is Turkey are amazing.

Turkey is absolutely fascinating. The extension gives you a chance to become acquainted with Istanbul -- it's huge and crowded but clean and friendly. The extension is well worth the time and expense. The city is approximately the size of New York City. Beautiful gardens along the highways. Gulhane Park is much more attractive than NYC's central park. Walk parts of the old city walls.
The Galata tower gives you an unexpected panorama. The modern art museum could easily require a couple of days to see thoroughly so was well worth the time.
We would have missed a great deal without the extension.

A most memorable experience. Turkey's history and culture are fascinating, and this program really gives a wonderful introduction to a magical country.

My trip to Turkey was Wonderful!!! Like walking into my Western Civ book from my freshman year in college. I firmly believe one needs to "stir the pot at times"...this trip did that for me! I honestly thought 17 days would be sufficient but am already contemplating a trip back for more. Loved it!

I would encourage anyone taking the Turkey tour to add the extension. Istanbul is a very large city with a lot to offer. The transition to the extension was seamless. Everyone who participated felt it was a really good value and enjoyed the extra time.
