Road Scholar
Program #13701RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Kansas City might seem like an unlikely place to spend a week. We chose it primarily because it was a relatively easy drive. It's actually quite a gem. We enjoyed the diversity of the programming that gave us a good sampling of what this very pleasant city has to offer.

This is my first Road Scholar tour and first Signature Cities tour. I highly recommend such specialized tours because I was able to focus on one city and its many aspects--historical, musical, cultural, educational.

Kansas City was a pleasant surprise. It has a lot to offer. The Truman impersonator, Truman library, jazz lecturer and visits to the Nelson-Atkins museum and Kaufmann center for the performing arts were all highlights. On our own time we enjoyed the WWI museum, Hallmark Center and the Steamboat Arabia. It was a congenial group with a good leader. Our weak link was too much down time with the historian.

Program and Kansas City exceeded expectations. Wonderful old houses, fascinating neighborhoods, and good museums. Highlights were: dialogue with Harry Truman impersonator; interactive jazz museum; jazz history from a KC musician; visit to Truman library. Hotel is within walking distance to two museums and historic area. Weak link was the "official" historian who was disorganized and inaccurate in some respects.
