This was our first trip using Road Scholar. We had a wonderful time, learned a great deal about Oregon and met some very delightful people. The guides were outstanding and at times quite humorous.

This was a gem of a program! We had four solid days of touring in a comfortable bus with knowledgeable guides who provided much information. Our frequent stops allowed us to see and explore. The hotel was comfortable and the food was excellent.

This was my first Road Scholar trip. It more than met my expectations and I plan to take more Road Scholar trips as I can. I liked the five days and nights for this type of state tour. I also think the starting on Sunday and ending on a Friday is excellent planning. I recommend this trip for many reasons to anyone interested in finding out how very diverse and beautiful the state of Oregon really is. I live in California.

This review is from both Sandi and Bill Pauli. Good overview of Portland area with excellent host and guides. Motor coach accommodation was good. Downside were the hotel - under renovation - and the catered meals. Breakfasts were like a "Motel 6." Most of the all-catered dinners lacked appeal. Might consider including at least one dinner at a local restaurant to get flavor of Portland cuisine. Box lunches better than evening meals which were lacking. Speakers, including former governor, quite good. Out of a 10 we would rate this trip a 8.0.

Even though I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for many years, I hadn't explored Oregon. I attended this program so I would become familiar with the diverse regions of the state and learn their history. I was not disappointed! It is a wonderfully guided trip through downtown Portland, but in the Mt. Hood region, the Gorge, and Astoria regions there is much to hear about and see--and to marvel at and appreciate. Roger was a wonderful leader who made the trip, travel, and meals run smoothly and each one of the speakers spoke with passion and enthusiasm! Hotel is some distance from Portland downtown and the eating options and opportunities to explore in the immediate hotel area are limited. However, there is the MAX train at the airport to transport you downtown for a very reasonable $2.00 ticket for all day sight-seeing if you come before or stay after the trip. The field trips to the Japanese Garden, to the Gorge, to the coast, and Mt Hood were stand-outs for me. The group was friendly and fun to be with, as well.

This was our 15th Road Scholar program, but our very first experience in Oregon. The variety of geologic and historic sites was quite amazing. All of the step-on guides and program presenters were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Our tour leader, Moira McCurry was very organized and had a wry sense of humor. The pace was described as moderate, but because of the distances to some of the sites from our hotel, we were often on the road from 7:30 AM until returning around 5 PM. The hotel, Comfort Inn & Suites, was well situated because it was close enough to the airport to provide courtesy shuttle service to it, to a nearby shopping mall, and to the MAX light rail train. We saw mountains, volcanoes, beaches, waterfalls and deserts, but we stayed an extra day on each end of the trip to be able to visit Mt. St. Helens and take a riverboat ride on the Willamett to see Portland city sites not included on this tour.

This was my first Road Scholar program and I really enjoyed it. It was well organized, educational but balanced with free time to mingle with other participants. The areas of presenters and subject matter were excellent. I not only experienced the sites but understood what I was seeing. I would certainly recommend it. It is also a wonderful way for people who do not want to travel alone to see the world! Pack your bag the world awaits you!

This was a wonderful trip. You are able to see little snippets of different areas of Oregon. Each area is so diverse with beauty found in each aspect. Just a beautiful and lovely state with great guides to help teach you on your path of exploring.

This was my first program with Road Scholar. I learned so much about the places we visited and about the history and geology of Oregon. I was so impressed by the professionalism of the Group leader and the Instructors. The catered meals were very good, and they made sure that people who had restrictions in what they could eat were well fed. The Clarion Hotel was a great place to stay, and I really appreciated its proximity to the airport and the view from my window.

What a delightful experience in Oregon and of Oregon. The program had strong presenters and the participants were congenial. I loved the educational aspects from geology to wine to salmon, berries, "weird" Portland, et al. The transportation to various venues was comfortable and the food was very good.

Sue from Groveland,CA. This was my pick for our annual trip with friends and it did not disappoint. I am amazed at all we got to see and hear in just five days. Apply named the "Many Faces of Oregon" we got a wonderful overview of the State and it's many wonders! Great job by Joe Couture in thrilling us with all our travels in "the path of destruction"!

Rita from The Villages, FL Number of programs attended: 1

Wonderful overview of Oregon from the Columbia River Gorge to the coast. Excellent lectures every night on a wide range of topics. Joe Couture provided a wealth of information on the history of Oregon and the unique influence of volcanic action in the area. Peter Chause gave us a wealth of information on downtown Portland. I would suggest taking an extra two or three days to further explore your favorite sites. This was our first Road Scholar trip and we were very impressed with how much we saw and learned.

Judy from Slippery Rock, PA Number of programs attended: 8

Too short. It is a long way to go unless you choose to put two programs together. It would make a great 7 day program, too much for 4 days

Virginia from Casselberry, FL Number of programs attended: 3

The program couldn't have been any better! What a bargain for the price! I loved everything about the trip. It was wonderful to be in the Great North West with its 70+ degree weather. I learned so much about the Oregon Trail and Lewis & Clark's exposition. Our leader, Grace Humbertson was very efficient The speakers and tour guides were first rate. We were all blown away with Joe Couture and is knowledge of geology and history. Don't miss this program!

Nancy from Levittown, PA Number of programs attended: 9

One of the best Road Scholar programs I have attended and the most active. You are "on the go" from morning to bedtime, but it's well worth it. Northwest Oregon is beautiful.

For a moment it was only me and the wind; the sky, the dusted hills and the river far below. For a moment time stopped. I watched the birds circling the tops of trees below me. For a moment I saw what they saw. Magical and mystical this place they call The Gorge. Gayle, Bellingham WA.
