I attended the marvelous Aug. 24-27, 2014 sailing trip on the Adventuress. The program was an experience to recall again and again to anyone who will listen! I was kept hoppin' busy from beginning to end because we were encouraged to do any and all crewing activities with the regular crew, including night watch which was a marvelous experience in itself. I must especially remark that my dietary restrictions are very challenging and the galley coordinator, Lenny, provided me with safe meals that were also delicious and nutritious! I enjoyed each meal immensely and everyone around appeared to enjoy their meals also. Using the "heads" was not as bad as I imagined. In fact, though small, they were kept very clean and fresh by everyone aboard. Yes, the sleeping bunks were a tight fit for all aboard, but we managed to enjoy it and laugh off any snoring. In fact, I was so tired every night, I slept soundly. I highly recommend this program to active seniors who enjoy a challenge and wish to fulfill a dream to crew on a historic tall ship! The patient captain and crew make your dreams come true.

This was my first Road Scholar trip and I'm ready to go on another one! Sailing on the Adventuress was truly a fun and educational trip. We did work, hoisting the sails, taking them down and furling them. We also were responsible for dishes and other cleaning of the ship. There were classes that were optional. I learned from the ones I took. Captain Daniel and all the crew were very capable, friendly and patient. I enjoyed the whole trip but my 2 favorite highlights were night watch with Fiona and climbing the rat lines!

A perfect extended sailing opportunity in an ideal setting, with congenial participants and crew--and no big sea swells. Learn the ropes and step into yesteryear on these relatively inaccessible islands between Puget Sound and the Straits of Georgia.

I have been on several previous Elderhostel or Road Scholar prgrams, and they have all been very good. But this was much more involved. We all helped with sailing the ship and learned how much cooperation is needed to sail a ship with a 2500 lb. sail to raise. The crew was knowledgeable and helpful. It was somewhat strenuous for me at age 88, but the crew could figure out what I could do. Everything was made to be fun. We all had a lot of chores to do, but it was made to be enjoyable. I really liked the sea chanties, and Zeal came up with many out of memory. There were other good singers and musicians in the crew. I enjoyed putting on various skits. I am looking forward to seeing some of the photos that many took.

It was excellent: did sail handling, sang shanties, ate well, and had great folks to interact with. The adventuress is a wonderful 100-year old schooner! Captain Daniel is capable and entertaining.
