We had a great group of participants who were friendly and supportive of each other's efforts. Jessica, the site coordinator and Bev, the group leader, were energetic, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Our AT expert, Leonard, is a jewel. He has great credentials to be the person to tell us about the AT. The program was well organized and well executed. The lodge is in a lovely setting. The food was fantastic. What I liked about this program is that it had a central focus--the AT. We hiked on the AT, we learned about the flowers and mushrooms growing alongside the trail, we learned about its history, and from Leonard, we gained some understanding of what it's like to be a "thru-hiker." This was a super Road Scholar program. Phyllis

This program was very interesting, stimulating, relatively strenuous and at times quite strenuous! The variety and diversity of participants was wonderful. The quality of the trails chosen were quite diverse, and beautiful. There was plenty of time for comradery and conversation. I highly recommend it.

My previous RS hiking programs were all great, and so was this one. The 3 leaders Bev, Jess, and Leonard, were knowledgable, dedicated, flexible, always accessible and approachable, and ready to help in every way. The hikes were great, progressing in challenge and excitement through the week. The accommodations were very comfortable and the setting was beautiful. the food was excellent, and the opportunity to have a beer or glass of wine and talk to new friends at the bar before dinner after a tough hike was relaxing and always enjoyable. The participants bonded from day one, enjoyed getting to know each other, helped each other, and had a lot of fun together. As a member of the Tidewater (Virginia) AT Club, I had some previous knowledge of and hiking experience on the AT, but Leonard greatly deepened my knowledge and appreciation of the AT, its history, and the people who have built, hiked, and maintained it. In sum, it was all about as good as it gets.

I've done a fair number of RS programs and the leaders on this one were among the best ever. So upbeat, accommodating and professional. Each one had a personality that added to the enjoyment of the week. Well done! And, what great hikes.

What a wonderful part of our country and what a great way to get to know it better. Bev, Jess, and Leonard were a great team. They chose progressively more difficult hikes so that they could monitor us individually. They were prepared, they were knowledgeable, and they were informative. Through them we all gained a greater appreciation of the Appalachians.

This program exceeded my expectations in every way. I loved the people, setting, lodge, food, and the hikes. I hope to return with more training so I can complete the whole program. The downhill trails were tough!

I loved learning and hiking the Appalachian Trail with my new friends. The Mountain Lake Lodge was a great place to come back to every night and wake up in every morning. Bev, Jess, and Leonard made the hikes enjoyable and educational, too.

Laurie from Erie, PA Number of programs attended: 8

As rated, this was a challenging program. The lodgings at Mountain Lake were great as were the leaders and instructors. I did not receive the list of participant email addresses to share my photos to those interested.
