The program lives up to its name for it was an Appalachian Experince. My goal in taking the trip was to learn about the culture of this area and I definitely accomplished it. The setting in Mountain Lake Lodge was ideal. The lodge was wonderful. Our leader, Rachel Stewart, was very accommodating and knowledgeable.

Beautiful setting in the mountains of Virginia. We saw many birds, a few deer, a skunk, and wild turkeys. Great food, and instructors who enriched the experience. I could not have been more pleased!

This was a very interesting and most enjoyable program with great music performances and wonderful speakers in a spectacular location, ind a venerable and posh hotel with gorgeous views of the landscape that surrounds it. I highly recommend this Road Scholar program to anyone who is interested in country music, Appalachia, and presenters who are local and knowledgeable .

This is a wonderful program in a beautiful setting. The program introduces you to the people and culture of Appalachia, including it's history, literature, poetry, folklore, music, and most importantly, what is and what is not real Appalachian culture. Mountain Lake is a gem set on a forested mountain in southwestern Virginia. The stone lodge is isolated, quiet and rustic, but newly decorated and comfortable, with TV and WiFi. The forest solitude and night stars are magnificent!

Carolyn from Peoria, IL Number of programs attended: 2

Road Scholar is a gem for allowing my age group of seniors to continue learning, meet interesting people and extend my wings of knowledge.
