EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The Mississippi Explorers tour was absolutely wonderful. Varied, informative, fun. Diane and Tom were the perfect tour leaders. They made it fun as well as educational. This was the best-organized tour I have ever taken. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the Upper Mississippi River area.

I enjoyed the program and to my knowledge all the other participents enjoyed it as much or more than me. I was particularly impressed with the group leader and her ability to make sure everything went smootly and the needs of all were accommodated.
All aspects of the trip from the initial contact and information to the accommodations and meals and content were of the highest quality due to the organizational ability of the leader. I'm sure that her affability, care and hard work rubbed off on the participants creating a group dynamic which added to the enjoyment.

One of the most interesting and fun programs we have attended. Diane and Tom were the greatest and kept the week packed full of various activities. She prepared us well with pre program information. It was one GREAT week.

A well researched and well organized learning experience. Especially enjoyed the scenery and the history of the River that is so important to the growth of our country. There was something new to see and learn about each day. Definitely would recommend this Road Scholar program.

Want a program that will give you a sense of the role of the Mighty Mississippi in our lives as citizens, a pride in our history, an outstanding opportunity to learn from a well organized and knowledgeable leader, a comfortable experience of growth and warmth? Travel down that river with Diane Van Wyngarden.

Judith from Mountainside, NJ Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 09/11/11 - 09/17/11
Diane van Wyngarden was exceptional in many areas. She always gave complete and detail information so we were always prepared. She was extremely organized. Also, special needs were always taken care of so everyone could benefit from the experience. Her assistant, Tom Quinn, was a wonderful asset to the program. He was always thinking ahead of what might be needed. Very accommodating. All in all I think the program is just fine the way it is.

Gail from Minneapolis, MN Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 08/28/11 - 09/03/11
Excellent. Five Star. Lovely natural scenery and quaint river towns; great experience learning about many various aspects of life along the Mississippi River; includes going through locks and dams. Never boring and never too strenuous, even when being outside in temperatures in the high nineties. Superb planning on the part of the two leaders, who were thoughtful, clear and friendly throughout.
