The visits to the Historic Mansions of the Hudson River Valley were awesome. It was so interesting to see how the very wealthy lived in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The visit to the Rockefeller mansion was the highlight of the mansion program and the visit to the CIA for luncheon was really great.

The Inn has not been updated for many years and is rundown. The food is not healthy. A location should be chosen closer to the visited sites to decrease the length of bus rides. No religious or political views should be expressed by the instructors.

Gilian from Sheffield, MA Number of programs attended: 3 I felt the program was not up to Road Scholar standards. The place we stayed was so far from the houses that my main impression of the trip was the long bus rides, up to 4 hours a day over the same route. The bus driver, Kevin, was fantastic but Tom, our "guide" talked very little, and then mostly about demolished houses, restaurants where you needed reservations, where he lived and worked. Not helpful. Plus, Tom offered a prayer at the beginning and end of each trip. I (and many others) found this offensive. The historic mansions were wonderful and the docents at each house excellent.

Exactly what it should be, 6 Hudson River mansions in detail. Good evening entertainment, quiet restfull location. Considering the locations of the homes busng was as efficient as possible. Weather fogged out some of the scenic routing enjoyed making the different Hudson crossings. Having a well experienced guide was a plus. If your into Historic Hudson Valley twas well worth it.

Too many hours on a bus, accommodations could be a lot closer to attractions. Warwick Center is 3rd rate at best. No housekeeping for rooms. National Park and docents of private foundations at all attractions were excellent. Bus driver was great. John was a good presenter, too much of Tom's photos.

Too long a bus trip to each mansion. Better locations for the program. Include a program at the Culinary Institute, botanical gardens, West Point, etc.

Overall, the program is very interesting. The most frustrating part about the mansions is that the older ones are kept dark inside, supposedly to protect the interiors and the art work, but the dim light makes it very hard to appreciate the detailed walls and ceilings. The Roosevelt estate and the Rockefeller estate were my favorites. The lecture on the "Robber Barons" was especially good. Know in advance that the Warwick Center is not a three or four star hotel; it is adequate but not luxurious.

Barbarann from Yardley, PA Number of programs attended: 11
Date attended: 10/07/12 - 10/12/12
Would not recommend this program. All activity was at least one hour from Inn. No maid service at Inn. Instructors were great. Overall, tedious.

Historic Mansions on the Hudson will take you to places whose architectural uniqueness will affect your experience of other structures and places you see. The effect provides an amazing kind of illumination and epiphany at unexpected sites and moments. The tour has been thoughtfully arranged to make this possible although no specific value judgements about style or aesthetic are ever made.
