If you want to learn about the upper mid-west and the importance of the Mississippi River to this region, this is a must program. Learn about the locks and dams, see many bald eagles in the wild and cruise the river several different times. The changing of leaves colors were brilliant in October.

This program was an eye opener to the mighty Mississippi. Can't get enough of it. Returned to LaCrosse a week later for another cruise with my daughter. Now want to do the lower Mississippi.

We loved this program. Diane was an outstanding guide. We have been on six Road Scholar programs. This one was the best organized of all of them. We learned so much and met many wonderful people. We highly recommend this program.

This was my first Road Scholar road trip and it was organized and led by an outstanding road scholar representative, Diane. Our days were full and scheduled so that we learned and saw an exceptional amount of the Upper Mississippi in one week. I would have liked more time in some areas but can not name one thing I would change to make that possible. I can recommend this trip and am so glad I had the opportunity to see this historical part of our country.

The leadership on this program is amazing! Diane is extremely organized, knowledgeable and personable. I would take another trip with her, no matter where it was - knowing that I would learn quite a lot, have a wonderful time and come home totally satisfied that my money and time were well spent.

This was a nearly perfect experience. This was the best organized program of the twenty-five that I have attended during the past eighteen years. I plan to recommend it to my friends and relatives and encourage them to attend in order to see all of the wonderful places on and around the Upper Mississippi. Thank you to Diane and her team of people who made it possible.

Beth from Modesto, CA Number of programs attended: 5

I thoroughly enjoyed this program and there are so many positive things to comment on. The program is in an interesting and beautiful area; there is much to learn, it was fun and informative to travel through four states and the boat excursions were a big highlight, especially our day on the Twilight Riverboat. The river towns we visited were charming and full of character. Our tour leader Diane was excellent in every way and I appreciated her enthusiasm and hard work. Her organizational skills are quite amazing. The lodging was always nice, especially the historic, beautiful hotel in Dubuque. The food was very good and provided a nice variety. Our last meal was one of the best dinners I have had this year. I really enjoyed all the learning on the bus. We watched interesting videos, were given handouts and provided mini lectures. We even played a game of Jeopardy. The bus was comfortable and our bus driver, Mike was the best bus driver I have ever seen. I was impressed at how smoothly our leader Diane and co-leader Tom handled every aspect of the trip so there was little waiting or disruption. I gained a new appreciation for this part of the country and the mighty Mississippi River. Some things such as clamming, I had never heard about prior to the trip. I would highly recommend this trip, it is a winner!

The program took me to a part of our county I had never seen. I was able to see what other folks had to deal with in their day to day lives which was very different from my life experience. In most cases their lives were much slower than mine and allowed them time to smell the Roses.

Every minute was full and fun. Our director, Diane Van Wyngardner, was superb in every way. We had the best accommodations, wonderful meals, and a flowing knowledge of the midwest instilled into our minds. The review asks us to tell some way this program could be improved. Neither my husband nor I could think of any. Keep up the great work!

If you want a fun-filled program that will open your eyes to the world of the Midwest and the Mississippi River's role in the American economy, this trip is for you. From an up close and personal experience with a bald eagle to great cuisine and banjo music while floating down the Mississippi in a replica paddle wheeler, to an amazing multimedia presentation at Minneapolis's Mill Museum - the entire program was a delight.

"I enjoyed "The History of Minneapolis In Just 19 Minutes". It was a quick review of 150 years of discovery and city building with a narrator walking through time to describe his home town. The film in the elevator was an interesting media display of how a flour mill operated and survived... or not. When we finished that part of the tour we exited on the eight floor to look out over St. Anthony Falls and the factory shell that remained after the fire in 1991. "Outside we saw an Indian story-telling hut on the way to boarding the William M. Black, a National Register dredge. One of the 34 ton side paddle wheels had to be removed from the boat to bring it in the landing. This wheel now stands in front of the museum (Liz & John). But the boat is open to tours. "After clearing Lock 13, the captain swung the bow gangways to the shore to pick up our entertainer, singer and songwriter L.A. Suess, seated in a lawn chair on the beach, for the afternoon. Bellevue, IA" Uploaded By: William

"discussed the operation of the boat we mentioned how pleased we were to know we would be going past Clinton and Camanche, IA.
