"Life by the Sea: A Prince Edward Island Exploration" was our first Road Scholar adventure. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every facet of it! While ANNE OF GREEN GABLES was a major draw for me, I liked learning about the mussel and lobster industry, as well as organic farming and ecological preservation of native species of plants. I learned about basketmaking using wood from the island ash tree and about creative spinning using wool or hair from various animals. The variety of activities in this program provides something of interest for everyone. And the islanders are delightful! What impressed me over and over again is how attached they are to place, how much they love the place they live. That applies to the leader of this program as well; she is a native islander who has lived near the North Shore all her life. She is highly knowledgeable about island life and very personable.
The numerous activities demanded energy to sustain us, and we were provided that in abundance through the delicious meals we had. At every opportunity I ordered seafood and was never disappointed. The freshness, the quality, the taste, and the presentation of the food were superb.
The people in the group were also delightful, and some will continue to be friends in the future and hopefully on other Road Scholar adventures with us!
