Road Scholar
Program #17720RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The Best Bridge You've Ever Played at the Grey Ghost Inn, VT. was delightful and met my expectations. The meals and staff at the Inn were sensational. This program is terrific value in a no-frills, clean and well run inn. This program attracted people throughout the US and Canada who were interesting and wanted to be better bridge players. I enjoyed it very much. SBG, RI

Nine friends and I participated in this program to improve our bridge playing. To a person, we all loved it. Marti, our teacher, is knowledgeable, well prepared, and wonderfully organized. She is also ebullient, funny, and energetic. And while she ran a tight ship during the instructional portion of the program, she made sure we had fun and had plenty of time to play bridge. The Grey Ghost Inn was the perfect complement to the program. Its friendly, relaxed atmosphere provided the opportunity to visit with other participants and to relax after the day’s instruction. Carina, the owner and innkeeper, took personal charge of us, inviting interested participants on local walks, escorting us into town, and providing local evening entertainment. The meals were delicious with a focus on freshly prepared fruits, vegetables, and meat. All ten of us are eagerly looking forward to becoming Marti’s “repeat offenders” as we plan to enroll again in the future.

The Instructor titled each page Bridge Boot Camp. GI Jane I was not. I felt challenged, sometimes overwhelmed and finally satisfied that I now had a good base to continue my progress and met wonderful people to play with in my own area.

Hi. The teacher is fabulous. The Gray Ghost card room is tight. We had a woman with a chronic cough. It was uncomfortable, distracting, and perhaps contagious. If you are sick, stay home or reschedule.

This program is of maximum benefit to intermediate players who come with a partner. Beginners, this is not for you. Although the Grey Ghost Inn is shabby, the food is great. It almost makes you forget the dim lights, the dirty carpets, the rocko beds, and struggling air conditioners - BUT NOT QUITE! Too bad, because a fine instructor and eager students deserve better accommodations.

The bridge teaching here is superb. I think it is best to come with a partner or group of four that are on the same level as you. If it is held at the Grey Ghost Inn I would ask for a room only on the first or second floor that has an air conditioner in the summer

The program was fun and challenging. The food was first rate. The other participants were friendly and welcomed me even though I came alone.

This is an excellent "bootcamp" on intermediate bridge. I would not suggest this for beginners but individuals who have played regularly and want to improve their game. Park and Marj Espenschade

We exercised our brains, honed our bridge skills, met delightful people, ate delicious meals, and left feeling that this was 5 days well-spent.

The educational program about Bridge was worth while but the bedroom accommodations at the Grey Ghost Inn lacked adequate heat, lighting and cleanliness.

The program was outstanding, to say the least. Marti made lots of sense. Loved the chance to play bridge all the time...there were so many nice people. I would take this program again in a heart beat. Would like to say the food was great and loved the Grey Ghost Inn. The beds could use an upgrade....they are a little too hard. I don't like to complain, however, if I came again I would bring a bed topper to put on the bed. No issue for me. Thanks so much.

Youwould like to understand some more points in bridge, take the trip to beautiful Vermont and take a class with Marti. She is personable and takes bridge seriously. The area is beautiful, especilly in the fall. The lodge serves wonderful food. Have a good Time.

This intensified bridge class is highly recommended for (especially) intermediate players. It was fun, informative and relaxed, yet intense - but not stressful. Marti, the instructor, is one of a kind. She is extremely knowledgeable, funny - very funny, kind but firm and truly loves the game of bridge and wants everyone to enjoy the game as well. She was always there to answer your questions and truly wanted everyone to experience success. The Grey Ghost Inn was lovely. It is not a fancy place, but it is country inn run by Carina and her family. Their hired chef, Jesse, was creative and presented fabulous quality meals. At his home he tends a full acre garden with 75 different varieties of tomatoes and he incorporates his garden in the meals. The veggies were superb....we actually had tomatoes that tasted like tomatoes! I've been on quite a few Road Scholar trips and this was one of the best!

WE HAD AN ENJOYABLE TIME LEARNING OTHER BRIDGE LAWS AND PROCEDURES. OUR INSTRUCTORS WERE EXTREMELY CLEAR AND LIVELY. OUR PARTICIPANTS WERE FRIENDLY AND DIVERSIFIED. WE WILL CERTAINLY TRY MORE OF YOUR PROGRAMS.

The bridge week was excellent. The instructor was very knowledgable and the accommodations and food were excellent. The other participants were friendly, educated and very interested in the game of bridge. The location of the Inn allowed me to take a walk every morning and our group could explore the area for an hour or two after lunch. Everything about the program was great.

There is only 4 days of instruction. Course is for intermediate players only, as stated. This course may not have been The Best Bridge of my Life (it was good bridge), but the Grey Ghost Inn served some of the highest quality, best tasting food ever served at any Road Scholar program. Ten star dining. Instructor is a pro. We could have used a final wrap-up/review session. That would have been nice for the 5th day.

I was surprise at the manner by which you phrased the issue of ethnicity. It would have been much easier simply as if the group was diverse.

The Gray Ghost Inn was ok, the food was excellent, and Marti was fantastic. Like Joyce, I am processing what I learned last week and am looking forward to using my new knowledge at a duplicate game next week.

A bridge player of any level would profit by attending the Road Scholar program in West Dover, Vermont to learn from the charismatic Marti Ronemus. I'm processing the strategies she taught me and someday, I hope to return to be revitalized by her teaching again. This is a fun program in a warm environment.

I had the "time of my life". There was so much I knew I didn't know. This event just left me wanting More and MORE. Our instructor, Marti Ronemus, was a phenominal teacher. I learned so much. The double bonus from this trip was just getting away and relaxing among the nicest people, from all over the US. It really is a small world and there are such nice people in it. I feel very rejuvenated! and I would do it all again............
