While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The Four Corners program was my second Road Scholar trip. It was better than I imagined it would be. The leader and expert guide plus the capable bus driver and fellow travelers made for an enjoyable and memorable experience. I left wanting to know and see more of this spectacular area.

This was my first experience with Road Scholar and I can't say enough about the experience. Aside from a very competent leader and archeologist, the fellow passengers were an amazing and enjoyable group. We saw a lot and learned a lot. My only criticism might be that there was too much packed into the time available. But that's a minor matter compared to what I got from the experience. I'm combing the catalog for my next adventure!

The main goal of the Anasazi Culture and the Four Corners Region trip was visiting archaeological sites in the Four Corners Area - New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah and learning about the cultures that lived there in the past and that still live there.

Our first morning began with a four hour lecture on Puebloan Anthropology, Archaeology and Archeoastronomy by Peter Gold, a cultural anthropologist who accompanied us on our trip. We also had a tour manager.

Peter Gold was outstanding - even treating us to Native American songs on the bus, and a Native American dance at Pueblo Bonito. He stood ready to answer any and all questions, even from very persistent tour participants. He is a true professional.

Our field trips included Mesa Verde National Park, Hovenweep National Monument, Canyon de Chelly, Aztec Ruins, Salmon Ruins and Chaco Canyon including Pueblo Bonito. There was no dilly-dallying anywhere.

Do not miss stopping at the Notah Dineh Trading Company in Cortez, Colorado that has an excellent selection of Native American artwork, jewelry and traditional crafts. It is next to Nick’s, the restaurant we used two evenings. On the longer bus rides we listed to lectures or watched a DVD. All meals were included and we could often choose from the menu.

The activity level is a 5 - and am guessing this is due to the terrain at the archaeological sites. The hikes are not particular long, but paths can sometimes be rocky. Everyone in our group of 22 did all of the hikes and visited all of the sites. It might be best to use a lightweight boot for the archaeological sites.

Travelers, beware! I sustained 16 bed bug bites while staying at the Baymont Inn and Suites, Cortez, CO, on May 18-19, 2011. Our group leader examined the bites and filed an incident report with Road Scholar. I met with my personal physician on returning home. My physician confirmed that the bites were either that of fleas or bed bugs. There is no way to tell them apart, other than flea bites usually occur when camping outdoors and bed bugs when staying in hotels or motels.
