This program balanced great educational information with active physical adventure. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the unique Black Hills and experiential adventures presented: hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, biking, and feeding the wild donkeys! Wild animals were abundant and great fun to sight along the journey!

Darla from Prescott Valley, AZ Number of programs attended: 2 Date attended: 06/03/15 - 06/09/15 High praise to Tim who made each day special. He shared so much of his broad scope of knowledge from history to geology to animal life in the area that we all learned gems to cherish forever. Although the days were very full, I had no problem staying awake for the evening programs with John, Yellowhawk and Paul. For a first time visitor to South Dakota, this was the best way to see it all!

i loved the Black Hills program. The scenery is beautiful and I learned a lot about the history of the area. The K Bar S was beautiful, the buses comfortable and the other participants were friendly. The leader was excellent. It's a busy schedule and I should have taken a watch.

We thoroughly enjoyed the program. The speakers were wonderful and group leader Tim fabulous. Scenery is breathtaking and so much history abounds in the area. The food at K Bar S however is of very poor quality and all breakfasts and dinners are served there. There was not any kayaking for most of the group, the facility at Sylvan Lake only had 4 and there were 25 of us. We visited the Badlands but never hiked. Custer State Park provided us with many opportunities to observe wildlife and to feed the wild donkeys. Hiking Crazy Horse is amazing!! Needles Highway and Iron Mountain road are thrilling. The bus driver highly skilled. Winery a lot of fun. We had a view of Mt. Rushmore from our room. Accommodations are clean, nice and in a great location,(short walk into town) but try to stay on the the second floor because you can hear the people above you walking around and talking.

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you for your comments. We are working with our outfitter to ensure that all participants are able to kayak on this program. Hiking in the Badlands is always in the schedule but was inaccessible on this date due to safety concerns from recent heavy rainfall.

One of the best, most active and informative vacations I have ever had! You can't beat the Black Hills! If you haven't had a RoadScholar experience, you should!

Great program! Tim Raben is so knowledgeable of the area and makes everyday a true exciting adventure. Loved all of the activities especially the horseback ride. The speakers provided great information of the history, native culture, and geological creation of the Black Hills and surrounding areas. A Must Take Trip!!!

Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, and Badlands trip was fantastic! This is a trip with a variety of activities, and a great leader, Tim Raben, who made each day informative and exciting. Put it on your list!

This outing was in a word : OUTSTANDING! Our guide, Timothy, was flawless in his delivery of location details. I not sure where you found our tour guide Timothy, but my suggestion would be to clone him. He absolutely is fantastic. Regards, Bugler Bill -:)

What a great program! Enjoyed the once a year opportunity to hike onto Crazy Horse's arm (even in the rain). The scenery was spectacular and the activities varied and fun. We saw loads of wildlife--particularly the herd of buffalo--up close. Tim, our leader, made sure we had a wonderful time.

Just returned from the program that included the Volksmarch to Crazy Horse. This was a thoroughly enjoyable trio that included many interesting activities and experiences. I has no idea the Black Hills of South Dakota were so beautiful and had so much to offer. It reminded me of my beloved California Sierras and I only wish we had as beautiful a bike trail as their Michelson trail.
