A fantastic voyage from start to finish! The ship is a beauty and the crew members were knowledgeable, patient and accommodating. The program coordinator "Dan-Dan" had everything planned to keep the kids and the grandparents working and entertained, yet he was flexible when needed. The Captain was great, providing sailing info, sharing stories, and keeping us safe. Of course, best of all was how the kids enjoyed the adventure…I did not hear one complaint during the entire time. The food was terrific (all vegetarian…yeah!!!!), and the kids could take turns helping in the kitchen. Our family (2 adults and 2 grandchildren) would give this trip an A+. Photos to follow as time allows!

If the barometer for the success of this trip is the enjoyment that the grandchildren got from it, then I think it was a tremendous success. The trip was skillfully crafted to build relationships with new friends. It was fun to watch the kids working, acting (there were many opportunities to be on stage), and playing together. Many of the crew were skilled in drawing the children in and making them part of the experience. I think every child on board would give this trip the highest marks. It was a little less wonderful for the grandparents. The sleeping quarters were tight and anything but private. The makeshift efforts to close off the “women’s dorm” were unsuccessful as those going up the ladder or those on the deck could look right in. Though the cooks did the best they could with what they had, it appeared that the kitchen was run on a shoestring using donations of ingredients. The food was bland, and anyone who did not like vegetables could spend almost the entire time eating plain rice or pasta. The only drinks offered on board were coffee, tea, and water. The kids didn’t have a glass of milk or juice for the entire trip.

this program is a great opportunity to share an intimate and educational experience with a grandchild. the program is quite highly structured with little time for reflection but as a grandparent you can opt out of any of the planned sessions and relax if you wish. Be prepared for tight sleeping quarters with many others, lots of trips up and down ladders, a bland vegetarian diet, incredible scenery, educational night anchor watches, and a fun time setting sails, and meeting a wide variety of wonderful people.

If you are not willing to clean ship floors on your hands and knees in order to give your grandchild a great experience, do not sign up for this program.

How many times have you looked at a "preserved" part of history, special art piece, historical documents, etc. They are ususally displayed but one can often not touch, they are locked in glass cases, or behind barriers. This tall ship is an historical monument, beautifully maintained and you get to actually experience it. Living with the ship, working the sails, and living while there as those did in the early years of its life creates an experience like no other. Do NOT miss this opportunity with your grandchild!!
