Program #16198RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was a wonderful program. It was led by very knowledgeable and passionate folks who make Gettysburg come alive for the participants. Our group was interesting and friendly which made the experience even more enjoyable.

This was exactly the program I was hoping for! Our guides gave us in-depth explanations of the Battle...how it developed, what happened during each of the three days, and the consequences experienced by both sides and the townspeople. They also provided fascinating stories and anecdotes that made the "players" come alive. Accommodations and food were superb and the coordinator (Nancy) and guides (Roger and Rich) catered to our needs and answered our questions thoroughly and with sufficient detail. My first Road Scholar program and certainly not the last! I unconditionally recommend this program!

Martin from New York, NY Number of programs attended: 1

The program was excellent. The accommodations and the meals were first rate. The field trips were exceptional thanks to Robin our Battle Field Guide also good lectures by other guides. The staff paid attention to detail and every thing went very smoothly. They could not do enough for us.

Julie from Mobile, AL Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 09/21/14 - 09/26/14
Great program! Guides were knowledgable but added stories of the times to make it enjoyable and not like a boring lecture. You could tell they enjoyed their jobs. Wish I had them for history classes in school. The Gettysburg Hotel was lovely with nice size rooms and friendly staff. Food also was very good. This was only my second Road Scholar trip but can't wait to go on another. Oh yes, I am going on another, to France in April 2015! Anyone that has taken a trip to France with Road Scholar let me know about it!

Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
GETTYSBURG, and the 150th commemoration of the 2 most important battles of the Civil War, should be on the list of any history buff. Of many Road Scholar programs I have attended, this was one of the most outstanding. You really get to understand the people and places important in the battle. Besides GETTYSBURG, Road Scholar also offers trips that include VICKSBURG, the battle that allowed complete Union control of the Mississippi River. See GETTYSBURG first.

Joan from Springfield, MO Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
I highly recommend the Gettysburg Experience to any and all. I can't believe how much I learned! Our hotel had big lovely rooms and the food was excellent. Our guides and lecturers were knowledgable and interesting. The leaders were friendly, helpful, and fun. I give this Road Scholar Experience an A+!

Charles E from Bridgeville, PA Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 09/08/13 - 09/13/13
Outstanding program and instructors. The soldiers and events of Gettysburg are real people and real events, not just dates and diagrams. This is another program I would love to repeat soon. Thank you.

Jack from Fairfield, CA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 09/08/13 - 09/13/13
Excellent program with very strong support by on-scene coordinator from YWCA. Content and presentation was excellent and reinforced our understanding of the importance of Gettysburg in our history, both as a signature battle and the venue for Lincoln's marvelous speech Everything was made more enjoyable by accomodations in the great Gettysburg Hotel.

Rosalie from Greeley, CO Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 08/18/13 - 08/23/13
For a first time participant, the Gettysburg experience was everything I had hoped for. I learned facts that I did not know and the socialization with same age and like minded people was very special. I look forward to my next trip. Rosalie Adolf

Barbara from Ames, IA Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 05/19/13 - 05/24/13
This program is very well organized, the best of the Civil War trips I've taken. By the end of 5 days I felt well acquainted with the town of Gettysburg and the three days of the battle. The newly renovated hotel was well located in the center of things and quite luxurious by Road Scholar standards.
