The program was excellent! Not only were the leaders competent in identifying birds, but they were also capable of sharing information on history, geology, botany, etc. pertaining to the area. The hikes were organized and provided a great experience and opportunity to explore incredible habitats. Longer hikes at high elevations were strenuous; however, they were advertised as such and plenty of time was provided to reach the intended goal at a leisurely pace. Hiking poles are highly recommended for the rocky trails and terrain for any and all participants as we each loaned one from our pair out to fellow participants for the duration of the trip. Birds were not as numerous or vocal as this trip occurs after the active breeding season - yet with the help of the leaders about 80 species were cumulatively listed and the alpine flora was spectacularly in bloom. The leaders were outstanding and very enjoyable.

A beautiful area not only for birding and hiking but observing wildlife and wild flowers with knowledgable leaders and friendly participants.

The birding trip to Colorado contained all the necessary items: beautiful surroundings, friendly and informed people, good food and, of course, birds. Being an amateur birder, I was slightly hesitant about fitting in with the group but found out quickly that everyone was willing to patiently listen and answer me. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves the outdoors and birds. Denise

This was a wonderful introduction to birding the Rocky mountains with some good hikes mixed in to showcase the beautiful scenery. The leaders were great and very familiar with their subjects. Pingree Park is a great campus to spend time in, the staff was friendly and helpful. Seeing so many younger people truly enjoying themselves in the outdoors was a refreshing change of pace.

Every aspect of this program was well-prepared and thought-out. It exceeded my hopes and expectations for organization, interest, new experiences, companionship, and leadership. I think the small group size was crucial to getting the most from the program.

This program gave me exactly what I had hoped for in that it had a good mix of birding experiences and hiking in the glorious Rockies plus some lectures about bird identification and other interesting birding opportunities to consider. Tim and Jeff were excellent leaders and generously shared their combined knowledge and experience. The participants were congenial, and their varied expertise made for a richer learning experience for me. The accommodations and meals were very good. The description of this Road Scholar program was accurate in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this birding trip because of the unique location of the program and also because of the variety of birds we saw. Tim and Jeff made every effort to into form us about the birds but also other information about the area such as the flowers, trees, as well as geological information. Thanks. Ann Elwood

Pingree Park is a wonderful group facility, and sharing it with many young people from CSU was delightful. (They gave me hope for the next generation.) The food was good, the hiking was beautiful, and the wildlife refuge was wonderful. And of course there were so many birds to see in their natural habitat.

This was a lovely visit, surrounded by snowy mountains and pine-scented air. While this is listed as a birding trip,(I saw nearly 100 species of birds)there were many opportunities to view other wildlife such as moose, mule deer, antelope, marmot, weasel, snowshoe hare, and more. I especially enjoyed the wild flowers and butterflies. Our knowledgeable guides were wonderful. They shared so much information and were incredibly patient and helpful. Some of the hikes were challenging, but the views were worth every step. We were allowed to find our own comfortable pace, which made this trip a joy.

Lynn from Rochester, MN Number of programs attended: 2

Beautiful surroundings and the accommodations were fine (room better than expected, food OK). We spent one day hiking on the campus and then branched out with two wonderful, strenuous hikes and another van-based day trip to the Arapaho Wildlife Refuge. Saw several new species (Cordilleran flycatcher, rufous and calliope hummingbird, olive-sided flycatcher). The combination of mountains + birding + hiking was what I wanted.
