This was a wonderful trip. Beautiful vistas, challenging hikes, and beautiful people. The hike leaders were top notch and very knowledgeable. I had a great time. I highly recommend this program to those who love hikings. Just remember, the hikes are strenuous and long, so you need to be in good physical shape.

This was a terrific Roads Scholar adventure! I’m a 57 y/o female and previously completed the Grand Canyon Rim to River program (I have done other, non Road Scholar, hiking and backpacking). I found the Mummy Range Program much more demanding than the Grand Canyon Rim to River. Both were excellent, but I like the Mummy Range program better because I was challenged in new ways. I was at best in the middle of the pack in terms of ability and strength and this program really stretched me. The leaders (Jan and Lee) were truly excellent. I really appreciated their attention to detail, flexibility, approachability, and creativity in fostering the best experiences for a group with diverse levels of experience and strength. They were concerned with safety first but in that context participants had the opportunity to really stretch themselves and try new things (e.g., boulder climb, glissading). Some of us missed one summit when the group was turned around because of incoming bad weather. However, I had a delightful time in the wildflower covered alpine tundra and would rather be held back than be chased off the mountain by lightening. Stronger hikers did summit that day. The hikes involved more elevation gain than currently described in the printed materials/web. So if it looks hard on paper now, know that it is actually about 25% harder than it looks!! The summits I made were spectacular and well worth the effort. I love to hike and I had a ton of fun. The camaraderie and support among the group members was especially impressive given the great diversity among participants. There were many food choices in the cafeteria and unlimited seconds on most items. The staff at Pingree were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The rooms were modest but comfortable with private baths. Overall an excellent experience. I would recommend it to a friend and I might do it again myself!

Arguably the most difficult Road Scholar hiking trip in the US, and one of the best. If you like strenuous day hiking, this is the trip for you. Great leadership shown by the trip leaders Jan and Lee who work so well together. Hiking in small groups in the gorgeous Mummy range just north of Rocky Mountain National Park is an opportunity that shouldn't be missed if you think you can meet the challenge.

I can't give the "Hiking Colorado's Mummy Range" program enough praise. It was a fantastic week exceeding all of my expectations. The Leaders/Instructors Jan and Lee were top notch in every way and the hiking tested all of my limits. I would recomend it to anyone who wants to see what they have inside but PAY ATTENTION to the description as far as the difficulty goes. While Jan and Lee did a superb job of catering to the varying abilities of the participants this is not a program that, regardless of how fit you think you are or how hard your experience has been on other programs has been, you should go to with out some preperation in the way of working on your fitness levels. This is the Granddaddy of the Road Scholar active programs. If you want to take full advantage of all of the hikes coming out of the Pingree valley don't think you can just get up off of the couch and show up. But if you take your preperation seriously this is a week that I would rate 11 out of 10! Eric Duerksen, Tucson AZ.

This was the best, most challenging Road Scholar trip I have been on to date. It was fabulous! Great leaders, a really great group.....nothing but A+++ I'd love to have more of this level of programs.

If you've been underwhelmed by other "challenging" RS hiking programs, this program is for you. You have to be in good shape just to attempt the four summits, let alone achieve them. Every day of the program offers you a new opportunity to challenge yourself. I can't speak highly enough of Jan. She managed to combine the roles of leader, mentor and friend. The tough hikes and initially underappreciated team building exercises forged a tight-knit group that was a joy to hike with. Truly a memorable week.

Leadership, location, climbs and challenges are physically and emotionally outstanding! An experience not to be missed.
