While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Close [ x ]
Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Wow! Talk about a tour where you can get a lot of bang for the buck, this is it. We’ve been on tours here in the good ole U. S. of A., England and Europe, but for being worth the money, this one out-shined them all. It was so well organized. And to help make it that special once in a lifetime trip, we were in the company of fellow Road Scholar “warriors” who were enthusiastic and caring companions. We saw so much, learned a lot, stayed in really nice accommodations and had many pleasant meals. By the time we got to each location we had received not only an excellent explanation, but many times had seen a DVD about the location. That made each place visited exciting and fun to explore. Also, I should mention, that because of the fast paced activities, the tour seemed to take place in a “short” span of time (even though it was 9 days & 8 nights) causing us to come away completely satisfied. My wife and I realized what a dollar value the tour was by the time we returned home. To begin with, we had driven from Texas to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, then crossed South Dakota to visit other various locations ending in Rapid City for the tour. Following the tour we drove back roads going home. We were sight seeing all the way, each way. The amount of places we saw and learned about by ourselves couldn’t compare to the Road Scholar trip. Those self traveled experiences reinforced the moneys’ worth of the Road Scholar experience. Lastly, I need to add, the tour leader, Marilyn Hovland was an extremely pleasant tour leader who knows her stuff and our coach driver, Ron Carlsrud, who, because of his attention to details and his individualized help to all of us, was THE perfect travel companion. We recommend this tour highly and without any reservations.

My mother and I had a great time on this trip! We both always wanted to see Yellowstone and Wyoming and South Dakota. Our Director Marilyn Hovland worked so hard to make it a great vacation for everyone! I reccomend this trip to all my friends who have not been out west. This was our first Road Scholar trip and now I don't think I will travel any other way again! By the third day it felt like I was traveling for weeks! (I mean that in a positive way) I would never have seen all those places and learned so much traveling on my own. The value was incredible. We stayed at places that would cost a fortune and you would have to reserve a year in advance if you were traveling by yourself. Our fellow travelers were a graet part of the experience as well because they were from all corners of the country and very well traveled and all very friendly and easy to talk to. Marilyn kept us happy, well fed and laughing and on schedule so we got the maximum pleasure from each day. She had me a little worried about polka dancing I will have to admit! Everyone in the group had a great vacation!

This Road Scholar program is one of a kind - an organized, interesting, educational experience about the South Dakota and Wyoming areas. The lecture content was informative, scenery outstanding and places toured very interesting. An A++ leader too. Thank you for this opportunity. (Judy Breckenridge)

What a tremendous program with an organized, friendly and knowledgeable leader! This program was a tour through an area of the USA that I had always wanted to visit, explore and learn more about. The prepared booklet was so thorough, and guided me through each day! Thank you.

This program was one of the best we have been on.Our leader was fantastic, her knowledge of the area was very rewarding and we enjoyed all of our side trips as well, and learned so much. Our coach driver could not have been better, he made it very relaxing as we traveled onto each stop.

This was our 1st trip with Road Scholar and based on this one, we hope to take many more. The program director was excellent -- very knowledgeable, interesting and organized. She included many side trips and activities that we would have missed had we planned this trip on our own. Great itinerary! ! Henry from Houston, TX

This was a very interesting trip to an unspoiled and beautiful part of our country. We had the best group of traveling companions, one could ask for. Be aware that this trip is quite active. You change hotels just about every night and this is tiring. Lots of bus travel. Loved the little town of Cody, Wy. Our guide and bus driver were the best.
