Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was a fantastic program. The food and accommodations were excellent and tour guides were very imformative as well as funny and personable. We even had a private jazz performace and a demonstration of the organ played in one of the basilicas. There is alot of walking and in Quebec there were a few places with many steps/hills but definitely do-able. I think the rating of "active" level was accurate. We had a great group and Sylvie and Andree were helpful, informative and FUN!

The week in Montreal and Quebec City was fun, informative and delicious. People in our small group were interesting and friendly. Sylvie and Andree are the best. Vive la Canada!

The guides for French Canada; An Artistic Journey are Sylvie and Andree. They were wonderful! Truly a delightful and well-informed pair.

They trip was great! I met wonderful people. Its amazing how you really get to know about different cultures and how people relate to each other. Don't always judge a book by its cover, read its contents.

This is one of the best trips my wife and I have attended. Our group leader, Sylvie, was a joy to spend time with: she was knowledgeable, accommodating, humorous and also completely in control and able to handle unanticipated “glitches” quickly and efficiently. Perhaps the most unique and appreciated feature of Sylvie’s program was the use of taxis to shuttle the group to/from many of the attractions. This allowed participants to leave a site after spending enough time for themselves, thus eliminating the usual “dropping off” followed by a “pick up” at a specified time where you were forced to stay at a location perhaps well beyond your limits.
The program itself was an excellent balance of history, culture, art and entertainment. Both Montreal and Quebec were clean beautiful cities, and our hotels were perfectly located for both group and individual exploration and were both first rate. Our concern of a possible language barrier, since neither my wife or I spoke French, was totally unwarranted. We encountered nothing but friendly helpful natives who spoke excellent English as well as French. We highly recommend this trip.

After 16 Elderhostels, thia is our first negative review. We had very few actual lectures. We had too much WALKING and not enough TALKING! There were several interesting sites, without any introductory lectures. Much of the Art was not previewed or explained. The guides were lovely and fun to be with.

The program leaders of this "journey" were outstanding. The program offered a wide range of options besides the basics, and they were on top of it every minute. Particularly impressive was how well they managed the logistics of moving two dozen folks around two crowded downtowns.

Our French Canadian experience was absolutely bench-mark. Sylvie and Andree are masters of the craft when it comes to putting together a program. We were delightled by their expertise, their welcoming personalities, and their enthusiasm. We learned a great deal about Quebec in the short time alloted....Not only did we learn a lot, but we had great fun doing so. We can't find one single fault with this program.... except we would have loved it to be longer. The Quebecois we encountered were genuinely friendly toward us and indulged me when I whipped into my high school French. I was ecstatic to discover that Sylvie and Andree offer an Intergenerational Experience in Montreal. My grand-daughter and I will be there next year!
