Great "team" of a local historian who illuminated the social history of the areas that we passed through along with a professional geologist who pointed out and illustrated the natural history of the rock formations in the region.

Superb program -- packs in a lot in just 10 days time! Not to be missed!!

Pat from Havre De Grace, MD Number of programs attended: 3

The Canyon Lands were awesome. The instructors were fantastic. I will have wonderful memories of the sites and people I encountered on this trip. I don't know how we could have packed anything else into these 10 days. It was way beyond my expectations.

This trip is a great way to cover a lot of territory in a short period of time. The hiking really lets you feel you have experienced the parks, more than just seeing the highlights from a viewing point. Learning how the various canyons were formed and why each one is unique, as well as learning about the earliest inhabitants and the later settlers, really gives you a more thorough understanding of this part of the country.

Our experience with Road Scholar's "On the Road" has been excellent, having completed three “On the Road” trips before our recent trip, "Utah's Grand Circle of Parks and Monuments and the Grand Canyon's North Rim." This trip was also excellent. I've read the positive reviews of those who traveled with my husband and me and I couldn't agree more. So, in addition to the spectacular sights, hikes, fellow travelers, history and depth of learning, I'd like to comment on a few of the details that made this trip one of the best Road Scholar adventures for us. Using the professional service of St. George Shuttle was wonderful for both travel into and out of St. George. The Dixie State College staff were all experts. David, Marcia and Kelly made learning fun. They are genuine people who approach all of the Road Scholar travelers in an open and easy manner, sharing their knowledge of the area, the people, the geology and history of the area in which we were traveling. Marcia let us know what to expect at each stop. We were prepared for hikes or pure enjoyment of the beauty before us. There was no pressure to hike if people preferred not to do so. David had slides, handouts, demonstrations and books which provided us with information about the Colorado Plateau and the particular area that we were viewing. He talked, without lecturing, so that his enthusiasm for geology and history were apparent and natural. I don't think their job is easy, moving 42 people in and out of busses, hotels, National Parks, etc., but they made it look easy. Well done! We highly recommend this trip and the staff who made the trip educational, memorable and fun.

This program needs to be on your bucket list! Fantastic sights!

Our trip to Utah's Grand Circle of Parks and Monuments and the Grand Canyon's North Rim was spectacular. We knew the area was beautiful to visit, but the depth of learning and understanding of the geological impact on the area through millions of years was truly satisfying. We appreciate how Marcia, David and Kelly worked every day to make the trip memorable, and all our companions contributed with courtesy and kindness to each other. It was a wonderful experience.

Short review--Fabulous trip! Longer version--really well planned, with lots of geology, local history. The presentation of Navajo culture was a highlight for me. Hiking almost every day, so we viewed amazing scenery both from the bus and on foot. Hikes up to 2 miles round trip, with easier options for those who wished. None of the hikes were difficult, but they were beautiful. Loved our fellow travelers and the three leaders plus expert speakers. Looking forward to a return trip next year!

This was an excellent trip! We saw the best of the best at each of the parks where we hiked. Everyday was filled with wonderful scenery (and lots of rocks! :-)). Our group, of seasoned travelers, blended together in a way I never imagined could happen on a 10 day trip. So many kudos go to Marcia, Kelly and David!!! What more can I say, we'll be back to Road Scholar!

Judith from Rancho Murieta, CA Number of programs attended: 1

We certainly had a winning combination of guide, driver and our very own geologist! I've traveled the world over and have FINALLY visited some of the most beautiful, awe inspiring, land formations on earth. This was/is an exceptional trip, well organized, and a fun experience. My travel companions were/are equally exceptional, people who wanted to learn about and experience the wonders of the circle of National Parks. Road Scholar is an amazing organization.

Charles from Oak Park, IL Number of programs attended: 2

This program exceeded my expectations and was one of the best trips I've ever taken. The southern Utah parks are incredibly beautiful and varied. The exposure to Navaho culture was quite interesting and enhanced the trip. Doing this trip with Road Scholar was perfect in several ways: they picked very good hotels, had terrific guides and speakers, the price was very reasonable and it is great to sit on a bus looking out the window instead of trying to drive yourself.

William from Kiawah Island, SC Number of programs attended: 1

An absolutely fantastic trip! Gained considerable knowledge about the geology of all the rock formations as well as a much better understanding of the Native Americans that originally settled this area.

What an excellent experience! Initially I had some reservations about the ACTIVITY LEVEL of this program, but it was just perfect! I love the way the group bonded, and the leaders were outstanding. I learned so much that I catch myself looking at rock formations differently now! Marcia, Kelly, and David all made the program extra special with all of their instruction and stories. I felt completely at ease during the entire trip, and I thoroughly enjoyed our guest lecturers too. I look forward to anticipating in another RS program in the future!

This is a wonderful trip designed for you to see the entire loop of National Parks and Monuments within Utah. I learned much about the history and geology of the locations for which I am grateful. Some days we hiked 1/2 mile, and one day we hiked 7 miles, but those who didn't want to, or couldn't do so much, were also welcomed. Great group of people met, and the leaders were terrific!

Ann from Mt Pleasant, SC Number of programs attended: 1

What an awesome experience, our first with RS,but not our last. They have put together a program that lets you hike the beautiful parks of Utah at your ability level, while providing informative presentations. It is a program that lets you see places that you would not on your own.

Jim from Owings Mills, MD Number of programs attended: 3

This was a wonderful trip. The beauty and grandeur of southern Utah speaks for itself. Our tour leaders, Marcia, David, and Kelly kept the tour running like clockwork and added to the experience by sharing their knowledge of the the geology and history of the region.

The program description accurately describes the trip, so read it for information about the content, activity level and accommodations. Emphasis is placed on education about geology. Information is also provided during the trip about the history of the areas visited, Native Americans and early settlers. There also is some information about plants, birds and animals provided during the trip. The scenery is beautiful. Our trip leader and geologist were welcoming, helpful, well-informed, well-prepared, and really nice people. The trip exceeded my expectations.

Just returned from a wonderful adventure in Utah and AZ touring the national parks and monuments there for 10 days. Encourage others to consider this program. Learned so much about the geology and history and culture of the area. Cannot imagine coming here without these insights! Do not miss this wonderful opportunity to tour this area with incredible guides and teachers!

this trip was amazing, learned, saw, discovered so much, Dennis, Linda and Jerry were awesome. The hikes brought us to magical places. Every turn on the bus, a new horizon. The trip can be a bit exhausting, very little "down" time. Expect a 2 day nap when you get home :)

If you haven't done this trip, put it on your bucket list. It is not only awe-inspiring scenery, but moderately physically challenging. I prepared for the hiking in advance and it paid off; I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on the adventures. Also, plenty of photography opportunities along the way.

The Grand Circle of Parks, Monuments and North Rim of Grand Canyone in Utah was exceptional in all ways. My husband and I cannot think of a better way to see all that it offered and cannot speak highly enough of this tip!

Bernie from Minnetonka, MN Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was awesome even if one has seen the National Parks in Utah/Arizona before. I consider myself a very well travelled individual and this trip ranks among the best! The group leader, geologist, as well as the bus driver were beyond compare. The beauty of the National Parks made me speechless and all I kept hearing myself say was "WOW!" A must see!

Warner from Plattsburgh, NY Number of programs attended: 1

Having traveled extensively for the past thirty years, I would rate this program as one of top ones I have attended. The leader, instructor and driver were outstanding in every way and the venues spectacular..

Deborah from San Mateo, CA Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was all I hoped it to be- seeing, learning, experiencing, photographing the Colorado Plateau with a great group of people. Now I understand how the great rock formations came to be and what they are becoming. The local pioneer and Native American info was also meaningful. So glad to have taken this trip!

Larry from Malvern, OH Number of programs attended: 1

After 7 tours in Europe, this is our first tour in the USA. This one rates up there with the best. Very informative, and well organized. The tour director, coach driver, and geologist were excellent! Would highly recommend this tour.

Julia from Columbia, MD Number of programs attended: 5

This was the best trip ever! Road Scholars we met in California recommended it to us as their favorite and they were absolutely right. The choice of difficulty of walks and the daily geology pointers made it a great experience for a non-science person!

Suzanne from Towson, MD Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 06/02/14 - 06/12/14
It’s been over a week and I’m still telling everyone I see about what a fantastic time I had in Utah. The group leader and our “personal” geologist were outstanding...and the rocks were beyond my wildest expectations. I signed up to see the Grand Canyon, but our time there was too short. I didn’t realize that the other national parks were just as spectacular. We have a beautiful country! Go see it.

Furman from Woodruff, SC Number of programs attended: 1

Genevieve from Los Altos, CA Number of programs attended: 8

If you want to do more than just visit the National Parks of southern Utah, this is the program for you! An experienced and local geologist is with you throughout the tour explaining the formations as you see them. This is a lot to assimilate in 10 days, but you leave with an immense appreciation of the forces of nature and the variety of land forms produced.

Adam from Raleigh, NC Number of programs attended: 2

Just do it! Marcia and Kelly are excellent. Janice ROCKS!

Sharon from Columbia, MD Number of programs attended: 13

This was the TRIP of a LIFETIME...seeing Bryce, Zion, Arches, North rim of the Grand Canyon, driving through Monument Valley...the sights never ended! And we had the ABSOLUTELY BEST leader and geologist along with us. Each day was filled with interesting facts, stories about the towns we drove through, maps and videos to fill the drive time, walks that had options depending on how active you wanted to be, stops at Native American spots...just a FASCINATING introduction to Utah and its wonders. It was well organized and thought-out--I came home tired but VERY HAPPY!!!!!

Kenneth from Milwaukee, WI Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was just amazing, sights that I just dreamed about became an actualality. Looking at Bryce Cancon with tears welling up I realize I made the right choice.
