Another great Road Scholar program that did not disappoint me. I have been in this Florida area before but learned so much more about it due to RS, going places not everyone can go and hearing excellent speakers and guides.

This was a wonderful if short adventure, we learned a lot about shells that I had never thought about before. Also new thinking about Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. It was my first time on Sanibel and now I know why so many people say what a great place it is. Just wait until you learn its history. Fascinating!

The trip to Sanibel Island was my first Road Scholar trip and I will definitely take more! The tours, lectures, accommodations were all excellent! Our program leader was so organized and knowledgeable! The best part was the people I met...all were friendly and interesting!

This was an excellent program. As first time participants with Road Scholar this trip exceeded our expectations. We can't say enough about the great organization and quality educational experiences.

The Sanibel program was an eye opener. Never knew shells could be so interesting. The island has miles and miles and piles and piles of multiple kinds of shells. 70 percent is undeveloped, no high rises, lots of good food. Sundial is a resort with condo type facilities. Only drawback is the buildings are scattered about the main building. On the other hand you are on the beach.

My first Road Scholar trip was to Sanibel. The experience exceeded my expectations! Elinor was an exceptional group leader. As a solo traveler it was wonderful to be a part of the group and learn from others as well as the experts who spoke to us. On my own I probably wouldn't have visited some of the stops that were on the program. But every thing was amazingly interesting when your group is treated as educational travelers and given exclusive access.

This was an excellent program! Our leader was wonderful! The speakers were exceptional and gave a lot of useful information for shell collecting. The "Conchologists" brought lots of samples, had lunch with us and went collecting with ous on the beach to answer and identify any shells. We had a wonderful group and we had a wonderful time! Take "no-see-um" spray for some of the excursions.

Sanibel is a beautiful island. I was so impressed with the conservation efforts by local residents. Our lodging was on the beach and very ,very nice. The activities were well planned and took us to places we might not have covered, like the National Shell Museum and the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve. Both were an amazing learning experience. I can't say enough about our guide. She is a lovely lady that really cares about people .

Wonderful week with great new friends. The activities were well planned and executed. I could have stayed another week.

An interesting and informative trip that explains the history and ecology of this precious area.

I agree with all the previnous reviews. Elinor is a great tour guide, the locale is really interesting as are the tours. I learned a lot on the trip, especially at the shell museum. One caveat though-do not purchase the Mollusks in Action DVD at the museum store. It is defective and has nothing on it. They will not replace it because I did not keep my receipt, which was for cash. Very disappointing.

My 1st Road Scholar experience was excellent. Well organized with a wide variety of field trips offered by great and informative presenters and an over-the-top leader, Elinor Martin. Everyday there was something new to learn but I never felt rushed. Perfect weather, great food, wonderful group.

Alfred from Burlington, VT Number of programs attended: 11

Excellent leader in Elinor, good accommodations, choice of meals and location and overall a nice mix of lectures, topics, outdoor activities and museum visits. All the presentations were informative, interesting and generally delivered with much enthusiasm. We found it an advantage to have additional days to explore other local attractions such as visits to Captiva and Useppa Islands. Of the eleven road scholar trips we have taken I would rate this near or at the top!

The 80 degree weather was perfect; the abundance and variety of shells blew my mind, I added new birds to my Life List, and the lodging was perfectly situated next to the tide line.

Cheryl from Aston, PA Number of programs attended: 2

Busy but relaxing trip at the beach. I learned about the big variety of shells and marine life, visited the beautiful Edison & Ford Winter Estates while learning about both of those smart, forward-thinking men. Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve was beautiful, and our tram driver/guide was knowledgeable and always willing to stop so we could look at and photograph local birds and flora. Good trip for the money.

This is the trip for shell lovers. There are millions of various shells on Sanibel Island, and Road Scholar's experts helped us learn all about them and the creatures that live in them. The Edison and Ford Estates were a worthwhile day trip; we learned what geniuses both Edison and Ford were, as well has how they made major contributions to the U.S. - and the world - that we hadn't been aware of. And our weather was perfect all week.

Sanibel Island is beautiful and a unique conservation area. There are so many shells here I had to ship some home! The program provides a comprehensive education. This was my first RS program and I am looking forward to the next one.
