ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

THIS PROGRAM WAS BY WAY OF A FERRY. ACCOMMODATIONS WERE CLEAN, COMFORTABLE AND ADEQUATE BUT NOT PLUSH. THE NICE THING FOR ME WAS THAT IT WAS A SMALL GROUP ON A SMALLER VESSEL WITH FEWER PEOPLE ON IT. LIKE A SMALL SHIP BUT NOT NEARLY AS EXPENSIVE. THERE WERE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, BEAUTIFUL SCENERY, FREE TIME AND A LITTLE EXPLORING. A GREAT TRIP! YOU WILL LOVE IT.

I found riding this workhorse ferry with its assortment of characters and adventures like riding a neighborhood bus around the city. Simply delightful! Chatting with the locals was stimulating and gave me a new view on living in Alaska with all of its far flung environs and challenges. Without question, I'd go again.

For sheer beauty and interest, this program exceeded our high expectations. Karen and Jere were superb leaders in every way. Bravo and thank you!

This was my sixth Road Scholar trip and was by far the most educational due to the expertise and enthusiasm of our leaders, Karen and Jere. What a team!! I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone as long as they are the leaders. The size of the group (21) was ideal. The accommodations, although somewhat Spartan, were clean and adequate. Pack lightly as storage room in the cabins is very limited. Get ready for a trip of a lifetime!!

Prior to this trip, my main goal was to see Alaska’s glaciers and totem poles, but I saw and learned much more. The trip up along the Inside Passage provided me with a breathtaking view of Southeast Alaska's beautiful snow-covered mountains and forests with its pristine water. Karen and Jere were excellent and enthusiastic guides. They provided us with not only knowledge of Alaska but shared with us their understanding of culture and people of Alaska. Their presentations were informative as well as entertaining. They shared with us various food and ‘potions’ that they had prepared from fruits obtained from their garden. I certainly enjoyed this. Both love Alaska, and they certainly showed us their love for Alaska. I highly recommend this trip to those who really desires to know about our country's largest state.

This program helped me fulfill a dream. It was my first trip to Alaska and a great introduction to the state.

This program whetted my appetite to explore Alaska's Inland Passage.

Barbara from Boalsburg, PA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/19/12 - 10/26/12
Informed and creative leaders, Karen and Jere, could not have done a better job. The ship was incredible .. clean, great coffee, wonderful fish, fabulous buffet breakfast one morning .. in the (unknown to us prior to the trip) beautiful dining room with a great view of the passage. Would recommend going earlier in the year to be able to spend more time outside on the various decks. Although we got luck with a week of sunshine .. it was a bit nippy .. although the additional snowfall on the mountains couldn't have been more beautiful!

Borislava from Los Altos, CA Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 10/19/12 - 10/26/12
The trip was wonderful. We were blessed with beautiful sunny days. The scenery was spectacular with higher elevation covered in snow and lower lush green forests. The ferry was more luxurious than I expected and food was good. Thanks to Karen and Jere and local peple we learned a lot about Alaska and experienced it more profoundly.

Judy from Woodinville, WA Number of programs attended: 2

This trip was even better than I expected! Scenery was beyond description and photos will not do it justice. I will never forget the beautiful snow-covered mountains and whitecaps as we approached Skagway. Loved our time in Sitka and also just watching the scenery from the observation area and the dining room. Food was good, the company was great, and Karen & Jere gave super presentations. This was my first Road Scholar trip and I would recommend it to anyone!

Sandy from Chattanooga, TN Number of programs attended: 1

Sandy from Chattanooga TN Number of Programs attended: 1 Date Attended: 10/19/12 - 10/26/12 What a wonderful, wonderful trip! Blessed with sunny, clear crisp weather for all the days actually in Alaska. Karen and Jere gave great informative presentations which were a perfect complement to the gorgeous scenery. Ferry staff on the Columbia were attentive and friendly. No complaints on the food which included great oatmeal, chili, seafood and more. Our congenial group added to the experience. I look forward to my next Road Scholar trip, but this one will forever be special.

Edmund from Hillsborough, NC Number of programs attended: 1

Mickey and I were greatly impressed with the Alaska program. It was our first experience with Road Scholar and certainly won't be our last. The trip exceeded our expectations in every way. The cabin was comfortable, the food excellent, the presentations very informative and the scenery spectacular. But, above all, Jere and Karen did an outstanding job of orchestrating a wonderful experience for us. We will never forget the warmth, experience and knowledge that
they exhibited in their presentations and other expert help. Thanks for a great trip.
