We felt fortunate to have a chance to soak up a beautiful fall in Maine. The Road Scholar tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park was such a fine way to conclude a memorable trip. Tour leader, Linda, took excellent care of us, kept us well informed, and entertained. Our courteous bus driver was friendly and reliable. We appreciated the thoughtful division of time with six excellent lectures held at the handsome new Abbe Museum in Bar Harbot and field trips to a variety of sites within Acadia, Bar Harbor, and other parts of Mt. Desert Island. We have come away with memories of a congenial group of fellow travelers and an appreciation of a remarkably interesting and beautiful part of our country.

I have always wanted to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. This Road Scholar offering provided the perfect opportunity. Although I am a single traveler, I felt welcomed by all of the participants, an enthusiastic and friendly group. I could never have learned so much if I had done the trip without benefit of the excellent tour guides, Linda and Glen. In addition, the expert speakers shared a wealth of information about the history of the area and the park. I wanted the trip to last longer, and I probably should have stayed an extra day to explore the lovely carriage roads by bike. However, I think next year may require a return trip. It was fun to ride route one on the way home and stop at Camden, Freeport, Portland, and York.

We had a wonderful time and met so many nice folks. The various programs were very interesting and learned so many things about the area. This trip was a part of a larger driving trip for us and fit in perfectly. We saw FDR's home, Eleanor Roosevelt's cottage for Val-Kil and Vanderbilt's home on the trip out and the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Corning Museum of Glass on the way home. It all fit together perfectly!

What a great trip and beautiful time of the year to visit Acadia National Park! As most great trips do, this one left me wishing that I could stay longer and do more, but I hope to return some day and until then will just encourage others to come visit this beautiful location. I think I ate way to muany berries and lobster, but what a great problem to have.

The vistas in Acadia are awesome anytime, but the fall colors reflected in the lakes and clothing the hills with shades of orange, red, and green make this trip a must for the fall season. Our program manager, Linda, orchestrated our schedule with efficiency and good humor. Add to that outstanding presentations covering history, granite quarrying, lobstering, the Acadia National Park and carriage road construction, naturalist, and the Abbe Museum exhibits. Even though I have been to Acadia several times over 30 years, I learned so much more about the region. I left wanting to return soon and bring others to enjoy.

Very good program however, we were provided a jalopy, old school bus, because the usual bus had mechanical problems. The company would not bring in another bus. besides being extremely uncomfortable and small, you could not see adequately out of the small school bus windows which had a definite impact on our experience. This is the second Road Scholar trip with bus problems that were not corrected by the company that manages these trips for Road Scholar . Judy Taggart, Delaware

We learned a great deal about not only Acadia National Park, but also about Maine. This program is a happy mix of nature, history, lobster fishing, quarrying, sight-seeing and more. It's the type of program that makes one a Road Scholar fan.

Ruth from Oxford, MI Number of programs attended: 2

My husband and I learned a lot about Acadia National Park and those responsible for developing it. Learning about the Victorian Era and how the place came to be known as Bar Harbor was also very interesting. The speakers were outstanding and being transported to so many places by a capable driver was a real blessing.
