Fantastic Experience! The staff were phenomenal - made sure everyone was taken care of. We had a bit of bad weather and they provided alternate opportunities to make sure we didn't miss out! Loved the hiking, the program staff and the other participants!

Debbie from Bethesda, MD 10/04/2015 - 10/09/2015 Outstanding - including the leadership, pacing, organization of each day's hiking trails and the participants themselves! What a lovely, engaging, interesting group of people. Add to that our luck in having a solid week of spectacular weather. I came home renewed with a boost of confidence that I was up to the challenge. I have to say that the hikes on days 1 and 2 were the most challenging of the week and I was relieved that later hikes were less taxing. There was a short period of 10 or 15 minutes on the second day hike when I really had to stare down fear to get over a particularly difficult scramble over the boulders. I wouldn't trade that experience, though, because of the support offered by everyone. These sorts of challenges are good for the soul as we age! Plus, it makes me want to keep growing and learning. And a word about our leaders: they were very experienced, totally charming, extremely patient and really, really kind! Highly recommend. My only advice would be to bring hiking poles and good hiking boots for stability, walk very deliberately to keep yourself safe and avoid falling. That was my biggest fear - that I'd slip, twist or fracture something. Wait until you see the scenery from the mountain tops! The physical exertion and accomplishment made me feel sorry for the passengers debarking from cruise ships at Bar Harbor! Who wants to shop when there are so many adventures and learning experiences awaiting us! Go forth and enjoy this trip! Now - while you're able!

The weather and the scenery were amazing and I am from Maine

I enjoyed the hikes tremendously. There were plenty of spots to stop to take in beautiful views of the harbor and surrounding area. While they were not unduly long, one does need to have balance and agility. There were sections where we had to focus on our footing: stepping on, over, or between rocks; reaching for a hand hold or a hand up; and a few times sitting on our butts to get down. After all, this is the rocky coast of Maine! We had one rainy day that put some twists in our schedule. However, our leaders made sure it wasn't a "wash out." We did a walk around a lake in the rainy mist and then visited two gardens. With respect to food, we had an adequate supply of carbs and calories. The folks who liked lobster, clams, and other seafood were in heaven. For those of us on the chicken and pork circuit, the selection at the restaurants was limited. Our lunch bags could have used a little more "ump" with either pretzels or chips and a granola bar or trail mix for a snack during of after the hike. Both the group leader and instructor were full of quotes, quips, and stories. Sometimes it was difficult to tell fact from fiction. We ate dinner every night at 5:30 so an evening program a couple of nights would have been great. We did drive up Cadillac Mountain after supper one night to see the sunset but what we got to see was the fog bank come in. All and all, it was a good six days in a lovely place.

Acadia is glorious, spectacular, rocky. I was happy, but hikers not from the east coast need to be ready for the rocky mountainous terrain. Not everyone was. The leaders are knowledgable, funny and dedicated. The days are full. Just be aware that the key hike leader is wound up tight as a drum, a bit paranoid. He exploded at a woman participant and got irritated with others. Different hike leaders on subsequent hike days probably would solve this problem. He can also be charming and funny when he wants. Bar Harbor has many many restaurants, a different restaurant each night would have been a great addition. Go.

Though I am not a veteran hiker, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of the Acadia hiking trip. The scenery was breathtaking, the group leader encouraging, and the program participants welcoming and friendly. Each day I learned something new about this beautiful region, as well as discovering something new about myself.

What a wonderful journey. Hiking in Maine has been a dream of mine for years, and it didn't disappoint. The pace was a little slow at times for me, but that's probably a good thing as i tend to power through and might have missed some of the beautiful vistas behind me. I appreciated that the guides discussed our group and split into two groups to accommodate different levels. Everyone gave it their best and we all enjoyed supporting each other's accomplishments. On the bike ride day we rode 6 miles then had the option of an afternoon on our own. The owner of the bike shop, Glenn, let us keep the bikes all day if we so desired. My friend and I rode almost 17 miles on beautiful carriage roads (no cars) and around lakes and ponds. Altogether there are 45 miles of carriage roads--so more to explore another time. Linda and Glenn were very knowledgable and passionate about Acadia National Park. We learned so much and every day was a wonderful adventure! You've got to hike and bike as much as you can because the Maine blueberry pie after dinner is a must. This trip was a great way to see one of our National Treasures; Acadia National Park.

I am not an experienced hiker or biker, so this program was a challenge. However, I was able to do it and loved every minute. The views were tremendous! No way would I have had the same experience from a car. Maine is so beautiful! I learned so much from our instructors.

I can see clearly why the wealthy summered in Bar Harbor. It's an ideal place in which to recharge your soul! The air, the views, and the people in Maine make this such a perfect location to escape the every day hustle and bustle. I had so much fun that I felt like I was at a camp for adults!

Hiking through Acadia National Park provided one stunning view after another. Mt. Desert Island is a study in contrasts: Mountains and coastlines, wilderness and luxury homes, diverse forests and sandy beaches. This Road Scholar program is excellent and provides the opportunity to experience all the contrasts of Acadia National Park. The leadership was excellent, and the participants were delightful.

This program certainly does justice to the beauty of Acadia National Park! Our hiking was rigorous and made even more enjoyable by our personable and skilled guide and the instructor. I shared the time with some good hiking friends and we all agreed that this experience is at the top of our Road Scholar hiking trips! I highly recommend it!

WOW! Road Scholar provided us with two outstanding leaders. Each day was very well organized and we were given a choice of hikes according to our hiking comfort level. Glenn provided information about Bar Harbor in a very humorous manner and Bill guided us with a smile on his face. I would recommend this program to all.
