EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Interesting, if a bit uneven program. Knowledgeable - and even entertaining - presenters. Program would have been managed better had the presenters held question until the end of their talk instead of allowing some participants to divert the discussion. Accommodations were a disappointment, particularly the MCM Elegante where a massive granite stone with the Ten Commandments greets your arrival - jarring for a predominantly Jewish group and out of place for secular accommodations. Visit the Church at Chimayo added nothing to the topic of the program and could have been skipped to provide more free time in Santa Fe. Santa Fe was delightful and there was reasonable time to explore its many treasures. Fun additions with a Klezmer Band and a performance of "Parted Waters." Group leader Karen was excellent at managing the troops and keeping enthusiasm high.

If you are wanting to learn about the conversos and crypto-Jews of New Mexico, you should take the other course. This course focuses on the later history of the Ashkenazi and Jewish merchants from the east. Both are good courses, but some people were disappointed that this course did not have more about the Sephardic migration. I took the courses back to back, so I learned it all!

In October 2011 I attended the Jewish Connections in New Mexico program, back to back, after attending The Converso Crypto Jews program (see program review). The instructors were all excellent, many with direct contact with Crypto Jews, and some who are Crypto Jews. It was especially interesting to hear the stories of the families who were prominent in building Albuquerque, and other areas of the Southwest, and to hear their modern day efforts.

One very special event of this program was having the opportunity to attend a performance of Parted Waters, a play about family awareness and thoughts of conversion, that brought home the conflicts in making these decisions. We had the pleasure of meeting the playwright and speaking with the actors as well.

This program stands well on its own, but is even more meaningful when taken after The Conversos Crypto Jews program.
