EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I highly recommend this program. I essentially went for the hikes but learned and saw new things that I hadn't counted on. Hikes were challenging but there was accommodation for slower hikers and I don't believe anyone felt left out or out of place. There was an abundance of hike leaders, much more than the usual 2 on most programs I've been on. The hotel and food was on par for a Road Scholar program. Nothing fancy, but certainly adequate. We had several choices of meals every day so one could be reasonably satisfied. My one complaint was the last day of the program where we had several site seeing opportunities. Frankly, they felt like time fillers and I would have preferred to hike. The departure got us to the airport late afternoon which made traveling home difficult for many. Perhaps they can extend the hikes by one day (or at least 1/2 day with site seeing in the afternoon), end the program the next morning, getting participants to the airport in the morning for better flights home. Having said that, I highly recommend the program. Jan and Vic were extremely gracious hosts and made sure everyone was taken care of. The hike leaders were friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable.

This was the most amazing program I have attended, now approaching 65+ Elderhostel/RS outings. Activity level, truly a 6! The organizational effort, support, lodging and food were terrific. I would highly recommend this program for the serious hiker, wanting to explore one of the most extreme sites in the United States. John Moyer MD Morrison Colorado
