Although this was my first Road Scholar experience, it certainly won't be my last. Mary, our Group Leader, did a fantastic job of sharing her vast knowledge of the Everglades ecosystem and the wildlife that inhabits this amazing area of Florida. Riding our bikes through the various parts of the Everglades was truly a wonderful learning experience and so much better than having to look at nature through the windows of a bus or van. Larry made sure that our bikes were always ready to ride and he was a pleasure to talk to. Great accommodations, excellent meals, well organized group leader, fun touring mates and delicious key lime pie are just some of the things that made this a 5 star experience.

If you like to bike, can handle 20 miles, and want to experience the Everglades from the ground floor then this is the trip for you! Group Leader Mary and Mechanic Larry were excellent - knowledgeable, well organized, friendly and concerned for everyone's well being. Highlights were the Big Cypress swamp walk, Shark Valley, Jane's Scenic Drive, Everglades City (old world Florida), friendly tour mates, and biking with the wind at our backs!

I recently went on my first road Scholar trip. It was a biking trip to the Everglades. I really did not know what to expect and went on the trip because I wanted to keep my wife happy. It was great! Our leaders Mary and Larry were exceptional, and the other people on the trip were as nice and as fun to be with as I could have ever imagined. I am a person who usually goes on vacation to go to the beach and people watch or to go and play golf, this was stepping out for me and I would highly recommend it.

Living my own Raiders of the Lost Ark experience with interesting new acquaintances in the Everglades was amazing. Swamp walking to see clamshell orchids and biking past piles of gators was just a part of the fun. Swapping stories in the evening over glasses of excellent wine was delightful also.

Wonderful adventure! Riding through the wide expanses of the Everglades, viewing alligators up close, swamp walking with great people and great key lime pie!

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We got to see parts of the Everglades that were spectacular. And the biking was well planned although at times we had to finish quickly so we could get on to the next activity. It was all fascinating however. The fellow participants were a great group and we made some lovely connections . My one complaint is serious however and needs to be addressed. I was bitten by fire ants on the boardwalk Anahinga Trail the last day. We were never advised to wear bug repellent or to even watch out for them on this trail. I have had a severe reaction which develops 72 hours later. Being covered with fiery lesions on one's leg and several trips to dermatologists and am on strong medications. Wear BUG Repellent!!! Whether the leader instructs you to or not! And watch out for tiny ants. They are not red, just normal looking. But are not to be ignored. No one else on the trip was bitten so the odds may be small but it happened to me so it can happen again. Otherwise the trip was great.

This was my 1st Road Scholar trip and it exceeded my expectations. Our leaders were knowledgeable and were skilled cyclists. Daily programs were informative and interesting. The group if people we travelled with were interesting and very friendly. This will not be my last Road Scholar adventure. Can't wait to get home and look at the catalogue so I can book my next trip

This program combines bicycling and exploration of the Everglades. Bicycles and helmets are provided and transportation to sites suitable for biking. The highlights were bicycling in Shark Valley f the Everglades National Park and the Swamp Walk in the Big Cypress. We enjoyed the congeniality of this small group and the professionalism of our leader.

Besides the biking, do not miss the Swamp Walk. It was just a very neat experience and better with a group of people you know.
