Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was a wonderful trip for art lovers. Thanks to Peg for being a great program coordinator. Two tips: 1) Check out attending the LA Philharmonic at the unique Walt Disney Concert Hall (just a couple blocks from the hotel) -- try to get the padded "bench" seats for $23.75 each (total) right behind the orchestra so you can watch the conductor & the orchestra; 2) Don't miss Paul's wrap-up lecture on Friday morning--his presentation of LA "money, power, & art" depicts a scenario that would be worthy of Hollywood!

I just returned from the Art Collectors and Their Collections trip in Los Angeles. This was a great experience of each day a new museum collection. We also were able to do some exploring on our own so the best of both worlds. This was invigorating for the mind and now I want to take a painting class.

I enjoyed the program, especially the lectures, and although I am handicapped, I didn't find the museums too difficult (used a wheelchair in two and walked with walker the other two). You can keep it "easy" as far as I am concerned. Peg was wonderful! I agree that it is really "cheap" not to offer wi-fi free in the hotel!

The Norton Simon Museum just blew me away. We did not have enough time there - I never did get to the Asian gallery. The hotel was under renovation, so we had to move our room (we attended two Road Scholars - this one, and the Signature City Los Angeles) but they gave us a room on the penthouse floor - rooms were no different, just higher. Also, note the hotel charges $9.95 a day for WIFI, with no areas of the hotel with free access. (Usually they give you free access in the lobby). Good organization on the leaders part, and no problems. The speakers were excellent. Good powerpoint presentations on the collectors, which helped you understand what they intended to accomplish with their acquisitions, and appreciate and understand the museums when you were there. I agree with Eileen - we had about six people with mobility problems out of 36, and it is very difficult to get around in a museum if you have trouble walking. I think it should be rated moderate, as there is a LOT of walking if you want to see the exhibits.

Excellent program and speakers. It would take a year of college courses to receive what we learned in a week! The hotel was ideal and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Tour leader was very experienced. She even made the bus rides interesting.

from CA I totally enjoyed this trip! It was just what I wanted, lots to see, learning so much, well planned, well provided for, good company. The different museums demonstrated what can be done with different funding. My one comment would be so say that the trip should not be rated as "easy"--that is misleading for those with difficulty walking, and there was lots of it.

Perfect accommodations. All the museums were worthwhile and all but the county museum were top notch. The county museum has top notch parts but was more eclectic. More guidance would have helped to pick and choose. The docent at the county museum scolded the participants. She was not the right person for this job.

The Joshua Tree program that was lead by Mark Wheeler was excellent and so delightful. He is a walking encyclopedia on the conditions and life of the desert. He's spent so many years in the desert, I told him that his alternate name should be "The Desert Fox".

Excellent lectures helped prepare me for each of the museums we were to visit. I particularly liked the lectures about the art collectors themselves and what motivated them to build a museum to house their collections. Also, the docent lectures were very helpful in preparing me for what I would be seeing at each museum. Great program! I've been wanting to see these museums for a long time and I know now that this was the best way to see them all.
