Think twice about this program. The lectures were good and the hotel and meals were fine. But the highlight of the trip is supposed to be a day-long trip to Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park. We just finished the program and didn't get to go to an island at all. The boat trip to the island was cancelled a few hours before we were scheduled to depart because of a forecast of high winds in the afternoon. This forecast was known a week or more in advance, but no attempt was made to change the boat trip to a different day or to earlier in the morning so the return could have occurred before the winds picked up.

In place of the boat trip, we were bused an hour to the Reagan presidential library. For those who had never been there, it was an interesting trip, though completely unrelated to the Channel Islands program. But many of the 70+ participants in my program had already been to the Reagan library, some quite recently.

In spite of missing the highlight of the program, we were given no refund, no voucher for a future Road Scholar program, and no voucher to make a trip to the island on our own.
