This was an adventure with every opportunity to fulfill my lifelong desire to learn about sailing in a wonderful setting, with great new friends, good food, and skilled kind captains. Captain Carol, Captain Cindy, and Captain Jeff were endlessly patient and encouraging as well as being highly entertaining, interesting storytellers, and experts on navigating Mobil Bay. I still can't tie a bowline behind my back but I can do it in the dark which may be more important. Thank you everyone for making this part of my life.

I'm a Northerner who really enjoyed the time on Mobile Bay. I learned a lot about the Bay, the area, and sailing. The Captain of Joshua and her crew were wonderful.

This was a fantastic trip. Fairhope,AL was a very pleasant surprise for a small town. Lodging and meals at Beckwith Camp were very good, and the setting on Weeks Bay was excellent. The experience on the Joshua, pictured above, was fantastic. Captain Carol Bramblett and crew were great teachers and fun to be around. If I didn't have more on my bucket list, I would be back again. I highly recommemd this voyage. "Man the halyards and the Jib, we are coming about".

This was my first Roads Scholar Trip and convinced me to do more. I loved the setting at Beckwith--especially the labyrinth and the food. The Joshua was wonderful. Interacting with people from all over the country was great. So many good memories--brown pelicans, kayaking, great laughs. The lectures in the evenings were varied and gave a multifaceted view of the area. I liked the one on Jubilee the best as the presenter did an excellent job of supporting how the phenomena comes about.

Absolutely, a wonderful time. Carol Bramblett and Cindy Frank are at the top of their game. I have a huge respect for navigators past and present. The Joshua is unbelievable. We didn't always have perfect weather, but we always had enjoyment and FUN.

Beth from Tallahassee, FL Number of programs attended: 7

The sailing is WONDERFUL. But if the weather doesn't permit, there's not much to do in the area. Mobile is an hour's drive away. Most RS programs have an alternative excursion, but here you're on your own. Two half-days we were scheduled to sail, and nothing else was offered. One of the speakers was much too political. But on the whole, a good trip.

Road Scholar's response:
Hi Beth. Thank you for your review. The reason some of the sailing didn’t take place was due to the Tropical Storm Karen, and it was for the safety of the participants that they didn’t go out in the bay. Instead of the regularly scheduled sailing activities, alternative programming was provided in the form of lectures delivered by the boat’s captains.

Everything about this program was far above my expectations. The boat; the instruction; the personable, knowledgeable, witty and down-to earth Captains; great evening discussions; quiet, peaceful Camp Beckwith with its excellent accommodations and food; and the extras that included canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and additional Sunfish sailing. Best of all, the great trip coordinators and enthusiastic participants.
