Enjoyed my third Fred Waring Road Scholar Choral Workshop at the historical Shawnee Inn this past week! The setting on the banks of the Delaware was at its spring finest! Our group of 20 singers under the excellent direction of Amy Rau, mastered the music in three days and performed Thursday on the stage of the nearby Shawnee Playhouse.

This program was a lot of fun. It provided a sense of accomplishment as we prepared for our concert, and we became friends with our fellow singers. Our Director, Amy, was outstanding. She not only knows the field of music well, she knew how to get the best out of us as we sang. She is joyful, enthusiastic, energetic, patient beyohd belief, and a lot of fun!! We had a great time.

This program offers the opportunity to sing choral music while staying at a quaint, historic inn in a scenic location. Music director Amy and accompanist Rachel are both talented, enthusiastic, patient, and nurturing. I would not recommend this workshop for novices as there is a lot to learn in 3 1/2 days. Some musical experience/sight reading ability is definitely useful!

This was my second Fred Waring Choral Workshop at the Shawnee Inn with Amy Rau directing. Amy is a very patient, talented director--who gets "the best" out of any singer! Enjoy working with her and equally talented Rachael Heater, our accompanist. They make a great team! We had an interesting group of singers.....but could have used a few more on the men's parts. The Shawnee Institute team of Cindy and Midge carefully manage all the details for the event. The Shawnee Inn was in full springtime bloom. And, doing our concert on the stage of the Shawnee Playhouse was a treat. Great accommodations and buffet meals with healthy choices.

This program was well organized, full of a variety of music, educational, fun and a true joy to be part of. The director was wonderful, highly skilled, yet patient, full of enthusiasm and had a great sense of humor. The Road Scholar staff, as well as the hotel staff, were all cheerful and helpful with any and all questions. The PA location was picturesque, easy to find and serene. The rooms were well appointed, clean and we received cookies each night as part of their turn-down service (yum!). The food was good, often served as a buffet, so we certainly had our fill! The other participants ranged in ages from 55-85, with a wide range of vocal experience, and we all got along swimmingly. I would recommend it highly!
