What a awesome week! This program offers a good balance between paddling, educational opportunities and down time. We had a wonderful group, great weather and awesome leaders! This was our first Road Scholar trip but there will certainly be more in our future!

this is a wonderful trip. There are minor drawbacks. It is an excellent buy for the money. I have attended it three times. And would return. There were too many mosquitos, but that may be the time of the year. The accommodations are Spartan, but clean. The site is very accessible. The kayaking is wonderful, varied paddles. The entertainment and educational programs are very good. Dinner in dining hall were not gourmet. Bkfst and lunches were good. None of the drawbacks would deter me from attending again. it is fairly easy to get there.

This was our first Road Scholar trip and it was wonderful. We were impressed with the organization of the trip, the knowledge of the educators, the planning of each day and how much we learned about the barrier islands. Kayaking was fun and not too strenuous. We took breaks and stopped at different points to hear from our guides about the salt marshes, swamp creeks and so much more. Kudos to the Chincoteague Bay and Field Station staff especially Jesse, Alyssa and Kirstie. They made the trip memorable.

MICKI from Pennsylvania FANTASTIC! Educators were top notch, accommodations comfortable and clean, local cuisine excellent. The paddles were in waters mostly undisturbed by people. Lots of birds in the saltmarsh, a real feeling of peacefulness.

I had only kayaked twice before I went on this trip. I had the time of my life! The guides were informative, patient, and fun. The equipment was clean and complete with linens. The guides did all the work- we just paddled, laughed and had fun. The food was great and the accommodations were super clean. I especially enjoyed the evening paddle. We saw lots of birds, turtles and different types of plants on each paddle. Lectures were interesting and we had some hands-on activities in the lab at the field station. Overall it was a great experience. I was tired each night for sure. I made some new friends and learned SO much about the barrier islands! Can't wait to go on another trip with RS. (age 61)

This was our second Road Scholar trip and it was a good one. The seafood boil the first nite set the tone for the whole week. A bit messy but quite tasty. The staff, Alyssa, Kate and Bob, were very informative and helpful, especially helping an old fellow in and out of the kayak. We learned a lot about barrier island - Chincoteague and Assateague. The ponies were interesting and the different paddling areas lots of fun. The last nites entertainment was excellent as were the two restaurants where we dined. For the newer kayakers like ourselves and those with more experience it was a great week.

I have been on a great many of the Road Scholar paddling trips. This one was the best. We spent many hours paddling in a variety of environments. The experienced staff were well organized, informed, friendly, patient, helpful and fun to be with. They watched the tides and weather, and made safe decisions without canceling paddling due to a little rain. The lodgings were clean and comfortable, and the food was very good.

We selected this program for its emphasis on kayaking and the variety of environments its offered, along with a reasonable price. The trip was wonderful! Great guides - cheerful, very well informed on a wide range of subjects, personable, energetic .. and talented! We took an airport shuttle from Salisbury, MD, driven by Bob, an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. A great person to meet after a long day of travel. The lodging, dorms, were quiet, simply furnished, with plenty of room for two and a shower/bathroom for us along a common hallway. The cafeteria food was healthy, offering a variety of foods to satisfy vegans, gluten-free, and those who have fewer limitations. The first night we were offered a seafood bake with fresh blue crabs, clams, sausage, corn, potatoes and a few options for those who declined that meal option. The program also included two dinners at local, well liked seafood restaurants, both excellent. The kayaking was in several areas, a short drive from the Field Station, our base, and the guides - Jesse, Bob, Jim - took turns explaining the history, culture, flora/fauna, waterways, ponies (Assateague), water creatures and plants. The program was a well balanced mix of kayaking, education, good food, great participants (13 in our trip), and awesome guides. I highly recommend this trip to those who like to get their kayaking in while enjoying the educational, Q&A, and camaraderie of a group curious and accepting and a trio of guides who are committed to making the experience a memorable one for us.

This program features a very professional, friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean and comfortable modest accommodations, a variety of coastal environments, a good cafeteria and two spectacular meals in town. The staff went out of their way to make sure everyone got safely into and out of the kayaks at all times. A great trip I highly recommend!

The Chincoteague field station staff, led by Parker, were helpful, flexible, and fun. Alyssa, Jesse, and Kirstie our field station guides, were warm, caring individuals who obviously took great pride in providing us with special educational experience. We liked them. The accommodations, while dormitory in nature, were more than adequate. Meals at the field station were homemade and filling. The meals provided at local restaurants offered a variety of foods in which to choose including local cuisine. All of them were wonderful. The kayaking field trips were well thought out, interesting and enjoyable. These trips included a variety of ecosystems found in the area. The staff was well-informed, accommodating, and willing to field all participant comments and questions. The whole experience was practiced and professional.

This was a great trip! We were on the go most of the time, kayaking a variety of different ecosystems and locations. Our trip leaders were the best - knowledgeable, helpful and very fun! The location is beautiful and very interesting. The people in the group were positive, friendly and flexible. Everyone in the group came singly; I felt very comfortable with this group. Fabulous trip!

This is a wonderful program for anyone who has kayaking experience and loves the out doors. You learn so much every day. I will never forget it. I will look at the salt marshlands in a different way. They are so important as a feeding ground for the birds and as a way to clean our water. Come on this program. You will love it. Charity Goodman

Highly recommend this mini-vacation for any kayaker. Well-organized with each paddle different but each one beautiful and interesting in its own way. Could not have had better guides or better service--guides even loaded and unloaded the kayaks and then loaded and unloaded each of us! A congenial group and not too big--14 was just the right size. Special treats like wine, cookies, restaurant seafood dinners and especially the final musical performance were much appreciated. Sign up!

We truly enjoyed kayaking on this tour. The guides were active, eager, and enthusiastic. They were also exceedingly helpful. We never even got our feet wet getting in and out of the kayaks. All kayaks were tandems with rudders. The accommodations were dorm-like, but spacious and clean. We were worried about the possibility of sharing a bathroom, but we needn't have. Our bathroom had two sinks, two toilets, and two showers. It was three steps across the hall, and we didn't share it with anyone. The food was not gourmet, but it was very generous, and there was always something available for my vegetarian husband. We have done several kayaking tours. We learned more about marine biology on this than on others we have done. We would recommend this tour for beginners or experienced kayakers.
