This program - which I attended last March - was well nigh perfect - except for the cold snap that sent us all shivering into our warmest clothing. I will hit a few of the highlights of the program for me: We made a very interesting visit to Micanopy where re-enactors brought early frontier days to life. Just learning how to pronounce the town's name was quite a challenge! The park ranger that gave the tour of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings "homeplace" was both knowledgable and charming. The morning spent at Morningside Nature Center was nothing like what I expected, The Living Hisotry Farm was an entrancing glimpse of a Florida cracker family's daily living as it would have been in 1860. We walked along the La Chua Trail in Paines Prairie Preserve State Park. I stopped at a pond about a half mile into the park and was dazzled by the variety of bird life. Knowledgable people counted 26+ different types! There were also numerous alligators lounging on the banks around the rim of the pond. The meals, while simple, were very well executed. The staff really seemed committed to taking good care of their guests. Our two vegetarians were met at the steam table at each meal to have their selections carefully pointed out to them. The program director, Cal Findeiss, could not be more caring and knowledgable than he is. A true treasure -
