Road Scholar
Program #12312RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was the first trip with you guys. I had a wonderful time. I made new friends. I was surprised I was able to keep up with the group. I was told I had to handle my own luggage, but I really didn't have to Corin was very helpful. Rob the bus driver went above and beyond to help me. I'm really happy I stepped out of my comfort zone and travel alone. It was worth it. I'm looking forward to my next trip. Everyone on this trip was very nice and kind to me. We had fun playing bingo, because I won three out of five games. I became the star of the trip, because I kept wining. Hi all my new friends.

This program covers a lot of territory, physically and educationally. The lectures on lobsters, maple syrup, and goat dairy are not to be missed!

Best we have ever experienced. Loved experiencing New England and the group we toured with. Our leader, Sharon Foehl was superb. We would love to recommend this Lobsters, Wineries and Foods of New England and will to everyone. Superb!

Wonderful food and sights to see. A lot of time on a bus and there was little free time, but the planned activities overall were wonderful and gave great highlights of the best of New England.

Lobsters, wineries and food of New England is exactly that....we were in food coma at the end of each day. The scenery was spectacular, as was the weather. Hint...if you can go into Newport a day or two early, so you can tour the mansions and enjoy Newport's waterfront. The bus tour included in our program whets your appetite for more! Wineries, breweries, and distilleries....organic farms, grist mill, lobster boat and lobster roast all tie everything together for a fun, tasty experience.

This is a wonderful experience with lots of interesting information and beautiful scenery. I would recommend it very highly. FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!!!!!!

Sharon was an exceptionally good guide. The whole experience was great fun, great learning about places we had not seen before, and wonderful food and so much of it. The groups are small enough so one gets to connect with the participants and humor adds to the total fun experience. Well worth the adventure.

If you love good food (especially good seafood), the history behind that food, enjoyable and well-learned "fellow travelers" you will not be disappointed in this program. Our "navigator" Rob kept us safe in every way, our leader Sharon kept us settled and invigorated at the same time, and our meals were prepared by great chefs and pastry chefs. Our field trips and lectures were more entertaining than cumbersome. Do yourself a favor: sign up for this program and add flavor to your life.

The 'tastiest' Road Scholar program that I have attended and Sharon was one of the best Road Scholar program group leader that I have rubbed elbows with!

This was my first Road Scholar trip, and it was an excellent one to start with. The group was pleasant, the food was great (if almost too abundant!), and I was very glad to have gone. Expect to be BUSY from early morning until evening; the activities are all good, but there isn't a whole lot of free time...

Oh, the meals you'll relish on this New England excursion! Not only will you learn about local food production but you'll eat and drink like royalty. Don't wait another minute, sign up for this program.

This is a great program but should be divided into two separate programs. We covered too much area and didn’t gt a chance to see the cute towns where we spent the night. This is my 26th program and I enjoyed everyone involved. The coordinator was great and the bus driver was the best but as I said too much time riding on a bus and not enough time to see everything. We were rushed every where we went .

I recently completed the Lobsters, Wineries, and Foods of New England tour. It was an excellent tour that took us from Rhode Island to Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (with a drive through Boston). I loved seeing this part of our country for the first time. And we saw gorgeous fall color all along the way. The tour included visits to organic farms, wineries, a lobster boat ride, lobster dinner, chocolate factory, cheese factory, cider mill, maple syrup farm, a potato vodka distillery, a visit to Ben & Jerry’s, seeing the Kennebunkport compound, L.L. Bean store in Freeport Maine, the Newport Mansions, and a visit to the Vermont Country Store. It was a busy tour and we saw so much! Well worth it. I met many great people on our bus. I send a big thank you to Bridget (our tour guide) and Jim (our bus driver).

Went on the Lobsters, Wineries and Foods of New England trip and it was great. Met some interesting and fun people along the way. I enjoyed all of the field trips with their interesting presenters (some of whom were hilarious) while digesting the culinary delights at each meal. Hard to believe I never tried New England "chowdah" so I'm glad it was New England that I took my first spoonful. Had a "wickedly" (local lingo for top notch)great time and I recommend it to anyone who wants to see beautiful fall foliage over tasty wines and cheeses. Never a dull moment. Learned a lot, ate a lot and saw a lot. Mission accomplished. I'll do it again as soon as I lose 10 pounds!!

This is a really neat program with lots of activity. The central theme is “foods of New England” and there was a lot of variety in the places we visited within that one theme. We had field trips or lectures on wines, organic veggies, bread, chocolates, cheese, cider, lobsters, corn meal, maple syrup, donuts and potato vodka. Somehow we also were able to squeeze in side trips (sometimes brief) to Ben & Jerry’s, the Bush Kennebunkport compound, L.L. Bean, Newport Mansions, folk singing and Bingo. The program covers a large geographic area (Newport to Ogunquit to Brandon – look at it on the map) so there was considerable transit time on our coach. Fortunately the coach was comfortable and the driver was first rate. This is a good way to get an overall “taste” of New England.

Jo Ann Connor is a wonderful hostess and, upon contemplation, one of the most memorable characters on our trip!

This was a great experience! Fantastic food; unbelievable scenery; and a super-modern high-tech coach in which to travel. If you want a get-away from the rat-race type vacation, this is it. New England is beautiful and the people are welcoming and salt of the earth types. The food is wonderful and abundant. You'll find out what FRESH fish really tastes like and learn about the food you eat and what to look for when selecting it.

Toni from Fort Washington, MD Number of programs attended: 4

Enjoyed. Leader was engaging. Group was a nice size. Feed me until I popped! Always wanted to visit New England and was not disappointed. Fun, Fun, Fun!
