This was a wonderful experience and it met all my expectations. During all three activities I felt physically challenged at times, and wished I'd been in a little better shape, but it felt really great to meet the challenges. The instructors and staff were very knowledgeable, competent, friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, and the Shawnee National Forest is amazingly beautiful and geologically and ecologically diverse. Canoeing the Cache River among the ancient cypress trees was an especially memorable experience.

The time spent at Shawnee National Forest was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the staff and fellow travelers and found the activities challenging and gave me a "touch stone" for future trips. Those who lead the activities were knowledgeable and approachable. I would recommend this trip for those interested in the description.

We have just returned from Camp Ondessonk where we had an amazing time. The camp itself is in a beautiful location, the introduction to hiking was wonderful. I'm sold, can't wait to go hiking again. Loved the horseback riding, although I was a little sore the following and day, and the canoeing was amazing. The staff and guides were helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and made the trip memorable. I would highly recommend this trip, and if you want to extend your stay, there is plenty to see in the surrounding area.

If you are looking for an introduction to hiking, horseback riding, and canoeing; then this is the program for you. The setting in southern Illinois is perfect for these activities. With the staff and facilities, you will be in for a fun and education time. You will need all the activities in order to work off the large and delicious meals served.

The activities were great and our guides were awesome. I don't want to be a curmudgeon, but feel I would be remiss if I didn't make future travelers aware that (at least my room) was rather dirty with stained and dusty carpeting, mini-blinds with a thick layer of dust, etc. I was just fine with the spartan furnishings, but dirty is not my thing.
